Foodie for a Year | June

It's summer and that means one thing - some of my all-time favorite meals!  Ribs, steak, kabobs, burgers...I'm a fan of pretty much anything on the grill!  I mean, summer just tastes so good, am I right?!  So to say I was excited for this month's link-up would be quite the understatement.

My initial plans were to share a summery salad we make often...or a corn-on-the-cob side dish...or my strawberry pie recipe.  But then we made this a week ago and I decided it was the perfect recipe for this link-up.  I love it for a few reasons--it's a main dish + side all in one, it goes on the grill, and it's super easy!  There's really no name for this meal.  And no recipe, per say, either.  Like I said, it's simple.

Summer Sauerkraut + Sausage Combo

What You Need:
Sausage of your liking (we always buy some form of ring sausage)
Fresh mushrooms
Salt & pepper
Olive oil/stick butter
Non-stick spray
Aluminum foil

What You Do:
1. Slice mushrooms and onion; peel and chop potatoes into small chunks.
2. Spray aluminum foil with non-stick spray; then start piling in everything.
3. Season with garlic, salt, and pepper.
4. Drizzle with olive oil or place a few slices of stick butter into the mixture.
5. Grill until potatoes are done.

Note: Oftentimes, we will put potatoes in a different foil packet since they take longer.  We may also put the sausage directly onto the grill if it doesn't fit with the veggie packet.  However, we mix everything together to serve.

It's that easy.  And that good, especially if you're a sauerkraut lover like myself!

And I've got you covered for dessert, as well!  Here's one of my favorite summer dessert recipes ever!  It would make for the perfect ending to this already-summery meal!

Now it's your turn!  Link up below and share a favorite summer recipe!  And don't forget about August's link-up when we'll be sharing a quick and easy weeknight meal - perfect for back-to-school time......but let's not even think about that quite yet!

  1. On the list! This looks delicious!

  2. That looks so yummy! It's something I think both of my kids would actually eat. Course my big kid isn't a fan of mushrooms, so he might throw a fit on that one. :)

  3. Sausages, potatoes and mushroom... Heck yeah!

  4. Being Polish, sausage and sauerkraut was always a staple in my home! Yum!!

  5. I love everything about this, pinning for sure!

  6. I love anything with sausage really, but never been a fan of sauerkraut. I love that you can grill the whole thing, and I'm sure it would still be tasty minus sauerkraut.

  7. Haha have you made Vanessa eat this?!?? Sauerkraut is one of her favorites (and not mine) and she would cook it at our apartment in college and I would always have to leave bc I couldn't stand the smell!! I do love all the other ingredients a lot!!!!

  8. This looks so good, and perfectly perfect for summer. I'm going to have to add this one to the list of must-makes!

  9. This looks amazing. I LOVE sauerkraut, so any opportunity to add that to a meal is a win in my book!

  10. All the praise hands for grilling weather (and for husbands that get to cook for a change! Haha). This looks delicious! But, I have a confession about sauerkraut! I was in my teens and helping in the kitchen of my church….we opened like 10+ enormous jars (like the kind you buy at Costco for an army) of sauerkraut at once and the smell was so overpowering and awful. I can remember it like yesterday! I haven’t been able to do sauerkraut since then! Haha. But this recipe may make me change my mind! Yum!

  11. Oh, sausage + sauerkraut, YUM!! I need to try this.

  12. Looks yummy and super easy. Also, not even lying when I say I just ate 3 Nutella Banana crepes for lunch because of your dessert recipe! 🙈

  13. Sauerkraut is one of my favorite foods (its the German in me haha) I will have to try this- Im assuming you could also do this in the oven too?

  14. That looks really good and easy to make! Thank you for sharing!

  15. Mmm yum! I'm not a big mushroom fan, but everything else sounds really good!

  16. I would leave out the mushrooms, maybe add something green but this looks delicious!
