Eating Healthy & Colorful with Goodcents

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had signed up for Beachbody and planned to do a 21-day fix in hopes of losing this excess baby weight.  So when a friend contacted me about helping with a Goodcents campaign regarding their new Sensible Sandwiches, it couldn't have come at a better time!  The boys have soccer every Saturday at 10:15, so we've made it a weekly habit to stop at Goodcents on the way home and grab lunch.

The Sensible Sub menu includes six sandwiches all under 500 calories.  The sandwiches are served on a sprouted whole grain bun that is comprised of bran, flax, oats and barley.  However, in true Goodcents fashion, they are baked fresh in-store every day.  So far, I've had the chance to try the Skinny Italian Club, Turkey & Cranberry, and Spicy Ham; they have all been great, but the Turkey & Cranberry is by far my favorite!

Goodcents also recently introduced rainbow bread for kids.  The rainbow bread features brightly-colored blue, green, purple and pink bread in a bun that tastes like its traditional white bread.  As odd as it looks, the boys looooved it!  In fact, I had to order two kids meals (they usually split one) and they nearly scarfed down their sandwiches before I had a chance to snap a photo!  Non-chicken nuggets for the win!

So if you're local, do yourself a favor and check out these two new offerings from Goodcents!  I promise you (and your kiddos) won't be disappointed!

Day Date & Segway Tour

Summer 2015 is officially here!  Despite the less-than-summer-like weather, I could not be more excited for the extra time at home!  Summer definitely started with a bang yesterday--the hubs and I went on a rare day date and finally cashed in on the Segway Tour Groupon I purchased back in September!  My last day of work was Wednesday, but the boys finished out the week at daycare, so we took full advantage!

We dropped off the boys at daycare around 8:45 and headed to the Segway Bike & Stroll office which is between the Plaza and Westport.  We stopped first for a coffee and scone at a local coffee shop near the Plaza and laughed about what we were about to embark on!  Craig was certain I was going to bite it...and to be honest, I didn't doubt him.  After checking in for our tour (and learning we were the only ones - not surprising), we watched a short orientation video with some general instructions to follow while on the segways.  I'm pretty sure I spaced out for most of the video, as my nerves were on high alert, and all I remember is the awful animations of people crashing to the ground.  Next, we went outside for a few more live instructions and then we each got test out the segways.  Not gonna lie, it was a tad difficult and scary for about one minute.  But after riding up and down the sidewalk, I felt pretty confident!  I was still nervous about coming to an abrupt stop if need be (like the time the car didn't yield to pedestrians and turned right smack in front of us!!), but halfway through the tour, even those fears were gone - I was going one-hand, no hands, and even taking selfies while riding!

The tour was great!  We rode through Westport, a small portion of the Plaza, and around the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum.  We learned some history about this great city of ours and had a ton of fun!

The tour lasted about two hours and afterward we enjoyed a patio lunch, including Bloody Marys, at McCoy's in Westport.

It was the perfect day date and we had the best time!  I would highly recommend doing a segway tour at some point in your life!  We loved it and now we're going to want to ride segways through every city in America!

Train and More Trains (and a Few Other Winter Break Photos, Too!)

What an amazing break it's been.  I am so grateful for the two weeks off I had to relax, catch up on a few things (blog posts), and spend with the boys.  I also love that my hubby's job is pretty lax this time of year so we got to spend lots of stress-free, let's-not-think-about-work time together as a family and do a few things we don't normally do.  Chuck E. Cheese, for instance.  And Cosmic Jump.  And lunch dates (with kids, obviously) to Wendy's and Fritz's.  And yesterday - Union Station.  We had never been other than one exhibit (me) and walking through before and after a marathon.  But since Brantley has been loving trains lately and is old enough to appreciate a trip there, we packed up and headed downtown.

First up, a train he could actually ride!  He was a little apprehensive at first, but quickly got over any fears and cheesed it up for the camera each time he passed by!

After riding the train, we went into the train museum.  Brantley, again, loved what Union Station had to offer!  He even made some random friends and followed them around, checking out the trains with them!

After making our way through the train museum and playing with Legos for awhile, I bribed Brantley another train ride for a couple of pictures with Holden.  Union Station is just too picturesque to not take some adorable photos.  They turned out okay.  And I thought it was hard to get good photos of one kid...

Before we left, we decided to snap some photos in front of the Christmas tree.  I was going to take one of Craig and the boys, and then he was going to take one of me, but instead a random passerby offered to take one of the four of us so I happily accepted.  Turns out, the guy acted like he'd never touched a camera before.  It took him about 11 tries to get this one photo, which ended up being a blurry (on auto setting).  Oh well.  It was the thought that counted.

In keeping with the train theme, we then headed to Fritz's at Crown Center a few blocks away for lunch.

After that, we got frozen custard, of course.  A must for us every time we go to Crown Center.

And that concluded our day downtown and my last day of winter break (minus the final weekend) this year.  Like I said earlier, it was an amazing break and I look forward to my next one!  Here are a few more photos to show what else we've done!
