Rhett's Nursery Reveal

When I learned Baby 3.0 would be a boy, I was slightly disappointed on the nursery front because I assumed my husband (ahem, Mr. Frugal) would be anti-new nursery as he was with Holden.  Another boy, another use out of our old stuff, right?  I was bound and determined to fight for some new decor...until we found (and bought!) a gray crib on clearance at Nebraska Furniture Mart, which meant a new nursery was in order!  I had envisioned something light, bright, fresh, and airy--with touches of gold!  Of course, I knew some things were there to stay--our glider and changing table, for instance--and I someone needed to make them work in the new nursery.  Since the changing table was black and that was the last thing I had envisioned in a bright nursery, I went ahead and painted it blue.  However, I decided to add a few touches of black and white to tie into the black piping on the glider.  We found a solid oak dresser on Craigslist (total 70s style), painted it to match the crib, and replaced the hardware.  The most fun part was the decor!  I had so much fun with it, even though trying to combine all of my Pinterest-worthy ideas was a bit overwhelming at times!  I love this new little space in our house and I'm so happy with how everything turned out.  From inspiration to complete, as promised long ago, here is Rhett's nursery!

Lorena Canals Rugs + Another Nursery Sneak Peak

Every time I get something new for the nursery, it's my favorite part yet.  The crib.  Then the bedding.  Then this gold shelf.  Then the DIY mobile.  But the most recent addition takes the cake...and might just be hardest to beat, period.

Meet my new Lorena Canals rug.

I have been waiting on pins and needles for this rug to arrive and when I saw the box at our door step last Friday, I nearly squealed with delight!

I knew the moment I saw this rug, I had to have it!  Not only does it fit perfectly within our nursery theme, but it brings the room together and gives it its own special touch the other bedrooms don't have!

And did I mention, it's gorgeous?!  And soft!  And the perfect size.  Seriously, in love with this rug by Lorena Canals!!

Lorena Canals rugs are handmade and eco-friendly, include all natural dyes, and contain no VOCs like most carpeting and rugs.  But perhaps their best feature?  They are all machine-washable and fit into a standard washer and dyer!  Necessary for a family with three boys!! #genius #yesplease

The boys love it, too.  If you follow me on Instagram {stories} you probably saw them running round and round on it Friday night singing the ABCs.  Good thing it's washable.

Furthermore, with each purchase of a Lorena Canals rug, you are helping to send a child in India to school and provide them an opportunity at a better life.  Gotta love a company that gives back!

There are plenty of Lorena Canals rugs to choose from--from sophisticated kid rooms to classy adult spaces, as well--so do yourself a favor and go check out their selection today (some rugs are also available at Nordstrom)!

Thanks to Lorena Canals for this rug that is beyond-perfect and the piece that nearly completes our nursery!  And P.S. Full nursery reveal coming soon!!  (Like, as soon as we announce his name--due to a few personalized nursery items!)

Disclosure: Lorena Canals sent us this rug at no charge in exchange for a little social media promotion.  However, all opinions--and my serious love of this rug--are my own.

Modern Burlap + A Nursery Sneak Peak

First things first, sorry to keep you all waiting on the Pink Blush giveaway winner.  Unfortunately, back-to-school time often means I have little time or energy to blog--and last week was no exception.  The winner was notified via email, however, so that was a highlight of my week!  Congrats to Michelle E.!  I hope you enjoy a little something special courtesy of Pink Blush!  And thank you to all who entered!

Last month, as I was dreaming about our nursery, I could envision exactly what I wanted for crib bedding.  I wanted something black and white, simple, and with no theme (animals, etc.).  I found this XOXO crib sheet at Pottery Barn Kids, but there was no changing pad cover to match.  I found this Burt's Bees crib sheet with a matching changing pad cover at Target (and on Amazon), but I didn't love the bees.  So clearly, envisioning doesn't always equal finding.

But then I came across an ad for Modern Burlap as I was scrolling Instagram.  You know those ads.  They're always geared towards your interests, what you've been googling, etc.  They are usually pretty annoying, but in this instance, I was glad they existed.

Anyway, Modern Burlap is a small shop out of Texas that offers swaddles, crib sheets, hooded towels, throws, and changing pad covers.  I quickly fell in love with their signature black and white designs and fell in love even more when I started reading about their organic benefits.

The following was taken from Modern Burlap's website:

What's so extraordinary about organic cotton muslin fitted crib sheets?

REGULATES TEMPERATURE! The breathable muslin fabric regulates temperature so well, so it is warm and comfortable for your little one year round! During the coldest winter months, it stays warm. During the hottest summer months, it stays cool. When your little one falls asleep in your arms, you can lay them down on a cozy, comfortable sheet for a great sleep!  No waking up due to cold sheets!

HIGHLY ABSORBENT! Our organic cotton muslin's open-weave design means superior, faster absorbency and fluid retention compared to rayon, synthetics, and cotton blends. It washes easily and dries quickly!  For a parent with loads of laundry, super fast drying time can't be overlooked!  Plus if baby spits up or leaks out of a diaper in the middle of the night (it happens, right?), that will dry quickly too!

BREATHABLE! Our organic cotton muslin is made with an open-weave structure that is lightweight, airy, and breathable. The fabric's breathability will reduce baby's risk of overheating and yield a safe environment!

INCREASED COMFORT AND SOFTNESS! The more you wash it, the softer it becomes!

...

I quickly ordered two crib sheets and two changing pad covers (always nice to have a back-up!) and I was beyond excited when they showed up in our mailbox just two short days later.  They are everything I could have hoped for, and more!

On to the sneak peak now, shall we?  Remember, we painted our changing table blue, added some gold hardware, and found the gray crib on clearance at Nebraska Furniture Mart!  I love how the nursery is coming along and can't wait to start adding things to the walls!

If you're on the hunt for nursery items, go check out Modern Burlap (or on Instagram here)!  I promise you won't be disappointed!

Friday Five

It's been a hot minute since my last Five on Friday post!  Seriously, June 10?!  That was almost the beginning of summer and now, somehow, we're nearing the end (I have only two weeks to go--eeek!)  Anyway, I'm a little late to the game today, as I feel like I've been painting non-stop for about two days now!  Really, that's a lie--yesterday I took a 2 1/2 hour nap and today I did a little nursery shopping.  But a ton of painting, too!  Oh, did I mention I'm painting in our garage and it's 100 degrees out?!  That is not an exaggeration!  We have been under a heat advisory for a few days now and it's safe to say it's scorching hot out there!

Speaking of painting, thanks for all the advice on nursery colors earlier this week!  Paint has been purchased (40% off, yeah!) and I'm happy to report, it's almost done!  Our final color choices were: smoky blue for the changing table (and maybe an accent wall, tbd) and pure white for the walls.  Remember, the best color to describe our crib is dorian gray (painting the dresser and nightstand to match) and our existing trim is shoji white.  I will also add touches of black and white (mainly because the piping on our old glider is black) and some golds!

This has definitely been my nursery inspiration, although I think ours will look a little different with the added touches of gold.  I couldn't be more excited!

My parents offered to take our kids for a few days, so I headed north on Wednesday to meet them half way and I will do the same on Sunday to get them.  I know my parents are loving every minute and I'm certain the boys are, too!  However, we Facetimed last night and I had to laugh when one of the first things out of my mom's mouth, "Look what I have!" as she showed me her glass of wine!  Which reminded me of this...

And then this...

Seriously, kids are exhausting.  Fun and silly and joyous and worth it...but exhausting!  Craig and I don't have big plans while they're gone, but I'm sure we'll enjoy a nice dinner or two and continue working on the baby's room!

Everyone's posting about Nordstrom's big anniversary sale this week, but you wanna know a little secret?  The only purchases I've ever made from Nordstrom are my Uggs, my Toms, and Clinique make-up.  That's right!  I'm just a Target/Old Navy kind-of-gal and to be quite honest, I'm a little intimated by Nordstrom and their prices!  That being said, I do enjoy seeing what other bloggers are raving about, and thanks to some recommendations, I may have purchased a few things online this morning!

I really wanted these earrings in rose gold, but they were sold out.  If I don't love them when they arrive, I may try to exchange them for rose gold once they're back in stock!

Kate Spade New York Mini Stud Earrings in Opal Glitter/Silver
Regular $32, On Sale $20.90

Next up, this tunic/sweatshirt!  (Thanks, Laura, for suggesting it!)  Hoping it fits my prego belly...or at least, covers the rolls after giving birth because it looks mighty comfy!

Caslon Space Dye Tunic Sweatshirt in Purple Streaky Pattern
Regular $49, On Sale $29.90

And finally, I've wanted to try these leggings for over a year now!  People rave about them all the time and Lord knows I can always use another pair of black leggings!

Hue Ultra WW Leggings in Black
Regular $36, On Sale $20.90

Lo and behold, I still love Target.  I got these sandals a few weeks back and I'm in love!  Sometimes, I think strappy/gladiator sandals make my legs look stalky, but because the straps on these are so thin, I don't think they do!

A few weeks back, Beauty Brand's had their annual liter sale where all liters of shampoo and conditioner are only $10.  I typically purchase one liter of each every summers and it lasts me the entire year!  #perksofnotshoweringoften  Anyway, I have used Revlon shampoo and conditioner for a few years now and I was ready for a change.  I asked the BB employee for a few recommendations for fine hair, and then as soon as she walked away, you know what I did?  Found a completely different kind/brand that I liked the smell of and that's how I chose my new shampoo!  A month later, I still love, love, love using it.  I hate taking showers, but at least I love the scent of my shampoo + conditioner!  If you're in the market, may I suggest Hempz Original Shampoo & Conditioner for Damaged and Color-Treated Hair.  According to Hempz, the scent is floral/banana!  Sounds about right!

That's all for today!  I'll be back next week with my 5-month prego update (ahhhhh!!!) and my wishlist for Baby #3!  Happy Friday, friends, and stay cool!
