Brantley Carter: 8 Months Old!

Brantley Carter, you are EIGHT whole months already!  All of mama's recent days off made the end of February fly, and what do you know - it's the 6th again so soon!  March 6, nonetheless!  We are so excited for spring time activities with you and even more excited that summer is nearing closer.  We can't wait to take you swimming and on vacation and on wagon rides and to Royals games.  Not to mention, someone has a big summer birthday coming up!  Your crazy mom is in full planning mode already for your very first birthday party!  The date has been set (July 6, duh), theme has been decided (baseball), menu is being planned (hot dog bar), and invitations are in the works!  I know it's still four months away...but four months ago seems like yesterday!

But first, back to reality and my eight month old!  You are so, so, so much fun these days.  You are becoming more and more independent and it's so interesting to watch you learn about the world around you.  You are a very curious baby and love exploring the different parts of our house.  You are a quick little crawler and definitely keep us on our toes.  Gone are the days of having picture frames within your reach and home decor that sits on the floor.  You get into everything that you can possibly get into and you love anything that's a non-toy (laundry baskets, dog bowl, dog food, blinds, rugs, plant stand, cords, kitchen pantry, dishwasher, refrigerator, shoes, shoe strings, etc.)

The morning of your 8-month birthday!  8 months ago at this time I was checking into the hospital

You also started pulling up {to a standing position} this month.  It's your favorite thing to do these days.  The couch, the ottoman, the coffee table, the diaper caddy, the stairs, the chair, anything you can pull up on, you do.  But...along with exploring and standing comes some bumps and bruises.  We usually just ignore your cries when you fall and you realize you're fine.  Your Gramma Fritz thinks you're a tough baby because often you fall and don't even seem bothered.

My favorite thing about this month?  You said the word "mama".  Your very first word.  You may not know what you're saying or be referring to me, but it still melts my heart.  And I am so proud.  Another favorite thing about this age?  You are looking more and more like a little boy, or a "little man", everyday.  I love when you wear jeans and love even more when you wear button-up or collared shirts.  You just gain adorable-ness every single day!

Happy 2/3 of a year, little man!  Mama loves you more than you'll ever know! :)

8-Month Update

Size - Not exactly sure.  Around 20 pounds according to our bathroom scale.

Words - Mama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Activity - You are so good at playing independently.  Rarely do you need "entertained" by Mommy and Daddy; though you do love it when we get down on the floor and play with you!  It's so sweet!  Your activity mostly includes crawling and getting into whatever you can get your hands on.  You also love standing (with the help of sturdy objects) and feeding yourself cheerios and other snacks.

Food - We're down to 4 bottles per day (8oz each) and it's wonderful!  (Remember those days of 7 or 8 bottles?  Yeah...that was not fun.)  You also eat solids 2 to 3 times per day.  Usually a "breakfast" of oatmeal and pureed fruit about an hour after your morning bottle, more fruits and/or veggies for "lunch", and then a "dinner" of rice, meat, and a fruit or veggie.  We've also been giving you prunes a couple times per day to help with your pooping...apparently solids make your poop solid!  Your foods now include: avocado, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, peas, pears, apples, prunes, bananas, mango, broccoli, green beans, chicken, turkey, ham, and beef.  According to Miss Stephanie, you've even tried raspberries and pieces of a chicken patty.  Yep, a chicken patty!  You also snack on baby puffs, cheerios, and baby mum mums.

Sleep - You still love your nighttime sleep and naps are getting better, too!  Usually two to three naps per day and they're becoming longer--like up to two hours!  And you are doing a better job at falling asleep for naps on your own, in your crib, instead of in our arms.

Bedtime/Waketime - Bedtime is anywhere between 7:30 and 9, after your last bottle.  Wake time is still between 6:00 and 7:00, typically.

Hair - Blondie

Eyes - Blue

Teeth - Still the same {bottom} two as last month.  But, you recently started drooling again like crazy and have been chewing on anything and everything, so we think another one might pop through soon!

Likes - Crawling, standing, taking all of your diapers out of the diaper caddy, ceiling fans, Kinnick, Kinnick's dog bowl, the dog bowl placemat, Barney, books, toys that light up, toys that play music, saying 'mama', climbing through the coffee table, most things in the kitchen, being told how much of a big boy you are, Mommy, Daddy, bottles, eating (this is a LOVE), and exploring the world around you.

Dislikes - Waking up from naps, being hungry, being tired, the recent snow.

Wardrobe - Mostly 6-9 months.  Size 2 shoes.

Diapers - Size 3

Weird Habits - You love to bang your head against hard surfaces.  According to the Baby Center email update I got the other day, it's perfectly normal.  But to daddy and me, it's just plain weird.

Mommy's Fave - Hearing you say 'mama' over and over and over again.  It's your favorite thing to babble about these days!

These pictures get harder every month.  Sigh...

The best two I could get...
