What Would You Do for $1,000,000?

Would you cut off your own arm? With a pocket knife?  Craig says he would.  I guess that shows how much tougher he is than me...mentally and physically.  No way would I ever amputate my own arm, even for one million+ dollars.

Last night we watched the movie "127 Hours".  It's based on the real-life story of Aron Ralston, a hiker/mountain climber who gets trapped in a canyon after a boulder falls on him, crushes his arm, and pins him against the canyon wall.  After five days of trying to free the boulder, he decided his only way of survival was to cut off his own arm.  So that's what he did.  With his dull pocketknife.  Yikes.

The movie was pretty good.  Very intense and not for the weak-stomachs.  I hid under a blanket for much of the movie. =)

Since the incident in April 2003, Aron has written a book, "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" and, of course, been the main focus of this movie.  I'm sure he's now a millionaire.  Of course, cutting off his arm was worth it, as it saved his life, but I wonder if he'd go back and time and change it?  Or was losing his arm worth the millions of dollars he has today??

  1. I don't think I'm a wimp but I'm pretty certain that I couldn't do it unless it was life or death and even then I don't know that I could.

  2. I didn't say that I would cut off my arm for $1 Million. That guy earned way more than $1 Million for the book and movie deal. I'd do it for all of that money but there is no way I could for just a million.
