Taco Pizza

Our friends Brandon and Jessica were in town last night from Wichita, so I decided to make a few homemade pizzas for dinner. The BLT pizza, of course, but I also tried taco pizza for the first time ever.  In Jessica's words: "This is the best taco pizza I've ever had!"  I don't know about that, but it was pretty good if I say so myself!

I followed a recipe I found online for the sauce, but pretty much did my own thing from there.  Here's my recipe!

1 pizza crust
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
3/4 cup water
1 pkg taco seasoning mix
1 tsp chili powder, or to taste
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper, or to taste
1 (16 oz) can refried beans
1/3 cup salsa
1/2 onion, chopped
Sliced black olives
1 tomato, chopped
Shredded Mexican or taco cheese
Shredded lettuce
Taco Doritos

1) Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

2) In a small bowl, combine tomato paste, water, taco seasoning, chili powder, and cayenne pepper.  Set aside.

3) In another bowl, mix refried beans and salsa.

4) Make pizza crust according to package directions.  Bake for about 6-8 minutes (crust won't be completely done)

5) Remove from oven and spread a layer of bean mixture, and then a layer tomato mixture.  (I didn't use all of the sauce.  The sauce recipe was supposed to be for two pizzas.)

6) Top with chopped onions, tomato, black olives, and cheese.

7) Bake for another 5-6 minutes or until crust is done and cheese is melted.
8) Top with shredded lettuce and crushed taco doritos.

9) Top with sour cream and/or taco sauce and enjoy! :)
