High School Friends, NYE, and Selfie Sticks

To be funny, in November I added a selfie stick to Craig's Amazon Wishlist.  He despises them and thinks they are about as arrogant as can be.  In his mind, to plan ahead enough to want to take a photo of yourself is downright vein.

I beg to differ.  I enjoy documenting life.  If I was to go on vacation with my family, I love the idea of a selfie stick simply to document the memories without having to ask a stranger to snap our photo all the time.  Anyway, we've had many a conversation about the {semi-obnoxious} devices and I thought it was hilarious when I, unbeknownst to him, added one to his wishlist.

Fortunately for him, I can't keep a secret.  I spilled the beans and he deleted the selfie stick before anyone noticed.

Fast forward a week or so.  My mom was searching for one final small gift for Craig and my brother-in-law.  She emailed me to see what I thought about a selfie stick.  My response, "Do it!!!!!"

Imagine Craig's enthusiasm when he opened said gift on Christmas Day.

He wasn't excited but I sure was!  I was already imagining the entertainment this thing would provide.

On the 26th, while in Iowa, we met up with my high school besties and their husbands for dinner.  Well, dinner eventually turned into karaoke and at some point, I busted out the selfie stick.  We had so much fun with that thing and you know what?   Everyone in the establishment (it's a very small place) wanted in on the SS fun!  The next morning, I deleted about 30 photos off my phone of random strangers' selfies!

Less than one week later, New Years Eve rolled around.  And for the first time since 2011, we rang in the new year with someone other than Ryan Seacrest.  We gathered with our neighbors (and then some!) and the selfie stick, once again, provided endless entertainment.

The jury's still out on whether we use this thing in public, but it's been fun so far.  And you know what, he'd never admit it, but I think even Craig enjoyed it. ;)

  1. Back at the beginning of December, my girlfriends and I had a girl's night out. My friend Amy brought a selfie stick. Oh the fun we had with that thing! We had more fun with the selfie stick than I could have ever imagined. We used it mostly at the hotel and when it was time to go (and many mimosas later) we thought it would be idea to take the stick with us. Not a good idea. It is bulky (even when it is closed up) and ended up half sticking out of my small purse. By the end of the night, I had no idea where it was. We will be purchasing another for all other times we do anything. I know I had 100 pictures of the dumbest things the next day. So much fun!

  3. Oh my gosh, I bought one too for NYE & it was quite the hit. I had more fun with it then I thought I would especially since I loathe taking selfies. Tee hee! But it was well worth the $5 I spent on it. :)

  6. OMG. That's amazing!!! I think Seth would be highly embraced to use one but I imagine we would get so many more pictures that way! I mean, my arm is only so long to take regular selfies lol.
