Not How I Envisioned It

It's currently naptime on my second to last day of summer break.  Even though my sleepy eyes are telling me to partake in a nap myself while I still can, both my head and heart feel the need to blog.  You see, it's been a crazy couple of days and since blogging helps me sort through all of the feelings, I can't help but want to write it all down.

If I could choose one word to describe my final week of summer this year, it would definitely be: eventful.  Let's start with the good!

1 | A quick trip to Iowa to reunite with my two best college friends and roommates.

Despite living only a few hours from each other, we don't see each other too often.  Life is busy and between the three of us, we have seven kids.  (I can hardly even believe I just typed that sentence!)  However, one of my friends, Sarah, is also a teacher, the other, Casey, is a SAHM an unemployed pharmacist, and the youngest of our seven children is almost one, so last Monday, I decided there is no reason we can't all get together!  I offered to make the trek to Des Moines and both of my besties quickly obliged!  It was a short little reunion (less than 24 hours together), but very, very sweet!  It was fun catching up with Sarah and Casey and reminiscing about our old college days, but even more fun watching our kiddos play together.  Casey--assuming you're still "unemployed" next year, I insist of making this an annual thing!!

2 | A visit from my cousin, Beth, and her little family of three.

It was fun having family in town for the weekend.  Beth and her hubby, Gene, have a little boy, Calvin, who just turned one.  We enjoyed some kid-friendly activities (Deanna Rose and our pool), introduced them to kolaches, and tailgated at/attended Saturday's Royal's game.  I barely took any photos and the ones I did take are well below average iPhone photos...but at least I have record of them being here!

 3 | I finally found Charlie Hustle shirts for the boys!

This photo is a little grainy, but how cute are they in their matching KC tees?!  Craig may have freaked out when he learned they were $28 a pop, but Brantley's will definitely get lots of use as a hand-me-down, and assuming we have another kid someday, girl or boy--Holden's will, too!

Annnnnd, that pretty much takes care of the good.  Now for the bad, or shall I say - eventful.  Because in the end, everything has turned out okay!

1 | Kinnick was attacked.

Craig was taking Kinnick for a routine walk around the lake last Thursday.  Apparently, they came upon another dog (quite a bit larger; a poodle of some sort) also out for a walk.  The other dog broke free of his leash and before Craig could even register what was happening, the other dog was on top of Kinnick.  Craig lifted the poodle-mix up by his neck, but only after his teeth had sunk deep in Kinnick's skin - enough to give Kinnick quite the puncture wound.  Craig whisked our poor, blood-matted dog off to the vet to have the wound looked at.  They gave Kinnick some antibiotics and pain meds and said that the dog bit into Kinnick's muscle.  Needless to say, the owner of the other dog is taking care of our vet bill and now I'm a little nervous to take Kinnick for walks without my husband along for protection!  Here is a picture from today, four days after the occurrence.

2 | Holden puked.  At the Royal's game.

I have no idea what happened, but Holden randomly threw up at the Royal's game on Saturday evening.  He didn't eat anything the rest of us didn't and he acted fine both before and after puking, which is baffling.  Luckily, the people in front of us had exited their seats for whatever reason; otherwise, they for sure would have been covered in vomit.  And bless the mom lady to next me who helped clean it off of me.  He threw up again on the drive home and a couple of times on Sunday, but the story was the same.  He played and acted completely normal both before and after puking.  I only wish I could say this was the most eventful thing to take place on Saturday.....but lo and behold, there's more!  And remember I said he acted fine before getting sick?  Here's a picture of Holden clearly feeling okay just 45 minutes before throwing up!

3 | Kinnick ran away.

That's right.  Just two days after being attacked, he was spooked so much that he ran away.  Now, let me just say, Kinnick is the best dog.  He is not the dog that wanders from his mom and dad or from his house, for that matter.  We don't have a fenced in back yard, but the chance of Kinnick escaping has always been the least of our worries.  He goes out, does his business, and comes right back to the door.  On Saturday night (after returning from the Royal's game and cleaning our pukey kid and carseat), Craig let Kinnick out.  In those same few moments that Kinnick was outside, our backyard neighbors decided to shoot off not one, but two, fireworks leftover from the 4th.  Kinnick hates fireworks.  And I mean H A T E S.  Because they were so close (and SO loud), he took off.  We spent the next hour (plus!) searching for him.  Craig + me + Beth + Brantley + multiple neighbors.  Yep, even Brantley.  Why he wasn't in bed you ask?  Because the fireworks were so loud they woke him up and he was too terrified to do anything but stay attached to my hip.  So what's a mom to do?  I put him in the car and we started searching together.  It was the sweetest thing hearing Brantley yell "Kinnick!?!" out the window of our car.  At 11:30pm, nonetheless.  At one point, we got wind from some people out walking that there was a stray dog walking around the lake, so with some direction from our neighbors, I drove our Highlander on the walking path halfway around the lake.  After an hour or more of unsuccessful searching, I was convinced Kinnck was long gone and we'd never see him again.  (We live in such the outskirts of KC.  With that, comes coyotes and other wild animals.  We're also close to a pretty busy highway and I was convinced he'd find his way there and get hit.)  I had tears streaming down my face as my neighbor friend told me the best thing to do at that point was probably give up and call around to animal shelters in the morning.  As I was debating what to do next, Craig called me with the news that Kinnick had been found.  Huge sigh of relief.  But with that relief came even more tears.  He was found {by Craig} just a couple blocks from our house.  Who knows what he did that entire time and where he went, but reunited we were.

4 | My cousin and her family were in a car accident on their way back to Iowa.

The most important thing is that, with the exception of some minor injuries, they are all (including 1-year old Calvin) okay.  Their car?  Not so much.  But cars can be replaced.  I think Craig and I were both in shock for part of the day yesterday though.  It's scary how quickly everything can change and makes me appreciate returning home safely each and every time we leave our house.  God definitely kept their little family safe yesterday and for that I am very thankful!!

5 | Brantley displaced a tooth.

I mean, seriously, enough is enough, right?!  This morning, in the same manner he did almost two years ago, Brantley fell tooth-first into the corner of the arm of our couch.  We tell him all. the. time. the couch isn't for jumping on or diving into.  But he's a boy.  And he's three.  And he just doesn't think about the ramifications or injuries that could result in such a thing.  In this particular instance, he was jumping from his PB Anywhere Chair into the couch.  Well, he hit the corner of the arm and by the time I got to him, his mouth was full of blood.  I could tell he tooth was pushed back, but I was too scared to see if it was wiggling.  I tried to put on my big girl pants and remain calm, but there's just something about an injury to teeth that freaks me out.  I called Craig.  Then the dentist.  All the while, I held Brantley and refused to look inside his mouth.  The receptionist told me to bring him in immediately and they would work him in as quickly as they could.  (Side note: We visited the dentist last week for his 6-month check up and it was an all-out brawl between him and I to get him to open his mouth.  For some reason, he freaked out and refused treatment.  Needless to say, I was less than excited to tell him we were headed back to the dentist to have his tooth looked at, so instead I told him he was tough like Alex Gordon and we were going to the doctor so they could fix his owie, just like Alex Gordon had done.)  Brantley fell asleep on the ride there and his tooth stopped bleeding.  Craig met us at the dentist, thank goodness, because my stomach (and mom heart) just can't handle this kind of stuff.  The dentist took some x-rays and inspected the tooth.  She said it was the best case scenario and that he hadn't damaged the root of the tooth.  The tooth was definitely displaced (which is only a problem cosmetically), but some neighbor friends have assured me that it's not at all noticeable.  And Brantley did such a good job at the dentist.  Opened his mouth, allowed them to {easily} take x-rays, etc.  I tried to snap a few photos.  You can see the injury in the first photo and the displacement in the second one.

At this rate, I'm ready to go back to school on Wednesday.  Or at least some normalcy in my life that includes less eventful days!  Thank goodness this is Monday wine night with my favorite neighbors!!

I'm Baaaaack!!!!

Confession: I haven't logged on to Blogger for a good four weeks!  What a shame!  I've been loyally following other blogs (well....when time allows) via Bloglovin, but between teaching a new class and having two little ones at home, my "me" time is pretty limited.  There are never enough hours in the day as is, and when I do have an hour with "nothing" to do, the last thing I want to do is stare at a computer screen...let alone attempt to put sentences and/or pictures together!  But that doesn't mean I haven't been composing posts in my head.  So, don't you worry--there are a few coming your way soon(ish): Holden's 5-month update (what?!?!?!), our mini vacay to Austin (which seems like FOREVER ago), a bit about my school year (and new class) thus far, a tour of my classroom (maybe...if I can force myself to take pictures)...and more!

For now, I'll leave you with a very random list of a few things that life has revolved around for the last four weeks!

{ONE}
Another trip to Urgent Care and another round of stitches for Brantley.

{TWO}
Craig's birthday.  Yesterday.  His 36th!!  He's old, right?!  We celebrated with dinner at Cheesecake Factory.  Random weeknights out to eat are the best!

{THREE}
Which leads me to my next point.  I gifted him, get this, a voucher for a Kansas City segway tour!  (I'm going with, of course!)  It's totally his thing, random facts and history about this great city in which we live.  He's excited!  I'm excited!  Stay tuned...I'm sure it'll make for a great future blog post!  (And there's a Living Social deal right now--two for the price of one--in case you're interested, KC peeps!)

{FOUR}
Kinnick's birthday.  He turned six a month ago yesterday.

{FIVE}
I hosted a Dr. Seuss themed baby shower.  Oh my goodness, possibly the cutest and most fun themed baby shower I've hosted to date!

{SIX}
The hubs painted our master bath vanity white.  Bye bye ugly 90s orange!  Next up, our kitchen cabinets!!!!!!  Hopefully. *fingers crossed*

{SEVEN}
Summer seems to be a distant memory.  And the weather is totally encouraging that.  We've already reached an overnight low of 40 degrees!  Brrr!!!

{EIGHT}
My grandpa was rushed to Mercy Hospital in Iowa City (via helicopter) over the weekend after passing out.  Turns out, his heart had dropped to a dangerously low rate.  He had surgery yesterday to install a pacemaker.  Hoping that he's a new man now!  Some pretty scary moments though, that's for sure, and thanking God for the positive outcome!

{NINE}
I started attending a Tuesday night MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) group.  It's a Christian-based group for moms of children ages newborn through school-aged.  The focus is on being a better mom, but mostly it's just an opportunity to meet with other moms in my same position.  I'm really looking forward to it...I mean, crafts and/or snacks every other Tuesday?  That's totally up my alley!

{TEN}
The Hawkeyes are sucking.  And so are the Jayhawks.  And the Chiefs.  But, the Royals?  Still going strong(ish) and hoping to make the playoffs!  Let's go Royals *clap clap clap-clap-clap*

{ELEVEN}
We were nominated for the Ice Bucket Challenge.  And accepted.  And donated.

{TWELVE}
And in case you were wondering, my kids are still adorable.  Cuter and more fun than ever!

{The Little Things} || A Boy and His Dog

During one of my snow days a couple of weeks ago, I was in the kitchen cleaning and heard Brantley giggles coming from the living room.  I went to see what was going on and found him laughing while repeatedly shaking Kinnick's hand.  Over and over and over.  This kid loves Kinnick.  Poor Kinnick doesn't love him to quite the same degree (or at all), but was taking it all in stride  I quickly grabbed my phone to snap a pic of this sweet moment.  And then realized it'd make for the perfect "little thing" post!

Since Kinnick was being such a good sport, I told Brantley to give him a hug.  And he did.  (He tries to do this often, but usually Kinnick sneaks out from under him and Brantley ends up on the floor.)

Such a sweet moment between my two beloved babies!

Kinnick Update

Thanks to those of you who emailed and texted to check on our poor doggy!  Two days later and he's doing much better!  The hubs took him to the vet yesterday morning.  The vet said he likely lost one to three teeth in the ordeal.  He gave Kinnick a pain injection, as well as some prescription soft food.  Kinnick has been scarfing it down and begging for more.  He's also eating treats again and drinking water--and acting more like his normal, squirrel-watching self!

He went back to the vet this morning and was sedated (after having blood work yesterday) so the vet could check for further damage.  He ended up having six additional teeth pulled and got a stitch in his gums.  Poor dog!!  He also got a teeth-cleaning, which should help with his horrid breath.

Sounds like he's on the mend and he's going to survive! :)  Though I hate that he was injured (and probably hate the vet bills, too), I'm glad I wasn't the crazy dog-mom on Sunday who overreacted to his run-in with the fence post.  Of course I knew that I loved this dog, but I guess I didn't realize just how much until now.

Poor Doggy

My heart is breaking for our poor doggy tonight.  He suffered an accident today while playing outside in the unseasonably warm weather. Ran smack into a fence post as he was chasing a squirrel. Knocked out a few front teeth and may have suffered a few other injuries, as well. He won't eat and his nose/gums have been bleeding (slowly) all afternoon and night. We called an emergency vet who told us it was nothing that needed immediate attention and suggested we take him to our regular vet in the morning, so that's what the hubs plans to do. In the meantime, he seems to be in pain. Which just breaks my heart. After all, he is my first "baby". Craig keeps assuring me that a few missing teeth never killed a dog, and that surely there are other dogs that have done the same thing. But it was still a rough day for me. And I think for the hubs, as well.

Feel better soon, Kinnick doggy!

Updates

Hello?!  Anyone out there in blog land still following along?  I took quite the blogging hiatus, huh?  The beginning of the school year is always so exhausting.  Waking up early, being on my feet all day (in heals nonetheless), and teaching wears a girl out!  I recently saw this on Pinterest and it couldn't be more true...

Luckily, you didn't miss much because, other than school, life lately has been pretty average.  Here's a quick recap of what we've been up to since my last post!

{ONE}
Kinnick turned 5 on August 15.  So, in human years, 35.  Old man dog.  He's officially the oldest in the house.  That sort of makes me sad.  It seems like just yesterday we brought him home from six-o-onest street in Warrensburg.  That's right.  Six-o-onest street.  This math teacher had a complete blond moment and called it six-o-onest street as I was directing my then boyfriend (now husband) to the kennel, not six-hundred-and-first street like it should have been.  Makes for a funny memory.  Anyway, happy birthday to my furbaby!  Poor dog didn't even get a birthday treat this year.  In fact, I forgot about his birthday until after the fact and the hubs was out of town for work, so naturally, he didn't remember.  Sort of sums up Kinnick's life since Brantley was born.  Sorry about that dog.  He truly is the best dog ever and we'll always love our first ever "baby".  Happy 5th birthday Schnauz!

{TWO}
We went to the Olathe Balloon Fest.  Technically, this was before school started...I just never blogged about it.  We met up with some friends and enjoyed funnel cakes, beers, and corn dogs.  The hot air balloons were cool, but probably not worth the $15 tickets to get in.

{THREE}
We got a beer fridge for our garage.  I told you life has been pretty average...I wasn't kidding.  Craig's wanted one for some time, and a friend/neighbor was giving one away.  The coolest part about it?  It's painted with chalkboard paint, so when Brantley's old enough, he can doodle on it!  As long as he doesn't also doodle on the good fridge...

{FOUR}
I made some super cute DIY rolo pencils.  I'm part of the social committee at my school and we have a tradition of giving new teachers little gifts their first few weeks of school.  I saw these on Pinterest over the summer and knew they were perfect for the occasion!  I enjoyed being crafty, even through my exhausted-ness.

{FIVE}
We went to Wichita for Craig's annual 4-hour fantasy football draft.  Fun stuff.  We went to dinner with Wichita friends and also took extended family photos.  These photos have been in the works for nearly two years, but people kept getting pregnant so the pictures kept getting postponed!

{SIX}
I booked Brantley's first flight.  Not only is it his first, but I'll be solo with him.  Yikes.  We're driving to Wisconsin next weekend for a high school friend's wedding.  The plan was to drive home on Sunday until Craig realized he needed to be in Chicago on Sunday at noon for a work conference.  I refuse to drive 8+ hours home by myself (and then go to work on Monday), so I decided to fly back to KC from Chicago.  We are driving a rental car up there, which works perfectly so Craig can fly home on Wednesday!

{SEVEN}
Probably the biggest news since my last post - WE NOW HAVE A WALKER!  Brantley's been taking steps for over a month, but only when we coaxed him.  Late last week, he started standing from a sitting position (without holding onto anything) and over the weekend, we noticed him walking more than crawling.  Now he's going non-stop.  Walking everywhere and walking FAST!  I think it's finally safe to say we have a toddler.  Perhaps a little later than others, but our sweet baby boy finally learned to walk at 13 1/2 months. We couldn't be more proud!

Friday Randoms

There's less than 24 hours until we leave for a week at the lake and I have yet to begin packing.  I made a list.  Does that count?  Not to mention, there are still a few blog posts I wanted to check off my list before leaving (Brantley's 12-month post, mainly).  But I'm not really feeling it right now, so instead I'm going to be very random on this Friday afternoon and combine a few posts I had hoped to write.

{ONE}
I drove to Wichita (and back) already today.  Had to drop off the schnauz at my in-laws since he's not allowed in the Ozarks (thanks Sharon for watching him!).  We're leaving him there for 3+ weeks until after we're back from our trip to Florida.  I know he doesn't get the attention he used to, but it's still sad knowing we won't see him for three whole weeks (or more).

Someone might even miss him a little more than his mama.

{TWO}
I've never driven to Ta-Town by myself.  So naturally, my car's never been there.  Turns out, my antenna-less car (it broke once when I backed out of our garage with the door only half up) doesn't pick up many radio stations between here and there.  The result?  I bought an audiobook to listen to on my way back.  Gosh, that makes me feel old.

{THREE}
The book I bought?  Heaven is for Real.  I heard of it a few times last summer but never really knew what it was about.  I'm only half way through, but wow.  Crazy, real life story about a little boy dying, going to heaven, and coming back.

{FOUR}
Brantley slept the entire 2 1/2 hour drive to Wichita.  And back.  This kid loves to sleep!

{FIVE}
We went blueberry picking this week!  I did the same thing last summer and have been waiting anxiously for the blueberries to be ready.  Just another thing to do in the KC area and another reason I love this place.

{SIX}
Yesterday, I had my oil changed and tires rotated at Walmart.  While I was wasting time waiting, I strolled through the clothing department.  (Something I never thought I'd do.)  Surprisingly, Wally World has some hidden gems!  I left with three of the below items...each at $15 or less!  Can you guess which three?  (The last two are swim cover-ups.)

{SEVEN}
We switched our kid to whole milk a week ago.  Now, we're trying to make the switch from milk in a bottle to milk in a sippy cup (as advised by our pediatrician).  But Brantley isn't sold on the idea.  Apparently, milk tastes better from a bottle.  Advice??

{EIGHT}
Since I probably won't have time to blog about our anniversary date night, I'll just include a snip-it here.  We had dinner at Garozzo's.  Craig ordered the 3-Way Pasta, which turned out to be 11 days worth of meals.  No joke.  The waitress said in her three years of working there, she's only seen one person finish it.  After dinner, we walked around at a park near Cooperate Woods, then had gelato from Spin.  Perfect night celebrating our three years of marriage.

{NINE}
What's up with Gmail's new format?  A tab for Primary, a tab for Social, and a tab for Promotions.  I bet you're really confused, Grandma...

{TEN}
Today is July 12.  On August 12, I return to the real world.  Ugh.  Why is summer always so freakin' short?!

Happy weekend!

It's a Toddler Thing

I now have a kid that will only feed himself.  And a dog who waits patiently for said kid to throw food over.

Maybe Kinnick will warm up to the little man, afterall...

Side note: After every meal, there's food in the chair, on the floor, and stuck all over B's body.  In fact, we usually eat naked (by 'we', I mean 'B').  It makes this neat-freak of a mama super anxious!!

Road Trippin'

And we're off!

Well, not quite.  But in 12 short hours, we'll be cruisin' somewhere through the Midwest en route to our final destination of Greenville, South Carolina.

We're excited.

Our first big road trip as a couple.  Our first road trip with a baby.

Oh yeah...and we're also taking our dog!

A family vacation, if you will. :)

Crazy?  Perhaps.

Greenville is about 15 hours from here.  That I am not excited about.

But I am excited for our mini vacay.  And for my cousin's wedding, which is the reason we're going.  And to wear my new, yellow bubble necklace.  And to see my parents.  And to introduce Brantley to his great grandparents, great aunt and uncle, and second cousins.  Fun stuff!

Check out this sweet thing we got for our car.

Despite an SUV, we were worried about fitting everything.  Babies need a lot, ya know!  I thought packing was stressful before...now I have to worry about a breast pump, baby formula, and diapers among a million other baby "goods"!  And I haven't even started yet.  I've been too focused on my long term sub plans...which are finally done...and the last week of my master's class.  That's done, as well!  (Which means one measly class to go!)

Speaking of sub plans, I finalized them with HR yesterday.  I'm not going back until October 22!  Woo hoo!  Taking off one entire quarter to spend with my little man!  The control freak in my has been freaking out about leaving everything perfect for my sub.  And of course, not being there to set the tone with my classes.

But now that my laptop has been turned over to my sub, I'm done with work and done worrying about it.

Alright, better go start packing.  Follow my Instagrams if you want picture updates of our trip!

But first, a special happy 4th birthday to my first "baby", Kinnick!  We love you, little K-dog!

Hotel Shawnee Misison & Brantley Update

This place is beginning to feel like home.

Except that we've been forced to move rooms four times now.  We're in room #5.  Ugh.

But...we're thankful to have a place to stay.  I'm honestly not sure what we'd do otherwise.  Especially since I'm feeding every three hours now.

There are some perks to this place.  The cafeteria has great cookies.  And I get a latte every morning.  It's no Starbucks, but something I look forward to!  The t.v. also has some great relaxation channels.  It makes me feel like I'm in a spa.  And the nurses are wonderful.  I honestly can't say enough great things about the nurses.

As for the Brantley update: today is day 12 (of 14) on antibiotics.  Assuming they are doing their job, we'll be out of here Friday night.  The nurse practitioner will perform another spinal tap sometime today, which will show if the infection is gone.  If not, it's another seven days here, but we're hopeful that's not the case.

I am so ready to be home!  To show Brantley his house and his awesome room and introduce him to his doggy brother and take him for walks and get newborn photos taken and do all kinds of fun things we can't do here.  I know poor Kinnick is ready for us to be home, too.  We go home each evening for dinner and he always tries to come back with us.  Luckily, my parents have been here since Saturday to help with things around the house (thank you, Mom and Dad!!!!!!!!) and have given K-Dog lots of attention.  Still, they're no mommy and daddy...

I'm also ready to introduce Brantley to the world.  We were advised to limit our visitors while here and there are so many people who want to meet him.  There are so many people I want him to meet, a well!

Anyway, there's the latest!  I hope to update again soon with happy homecoming news!  Pray for us, pray for him, and pray that the antibiotics have done their job.

A Fun Weekend

We had such a great weekend!  There wasn't one thing that made it so good - just a bunch of little things combined and the fact that we had no real plans, but sort of went with the flow instead.  Here are some highlights:

Eric Church Concert
We headed to Topeka on Friday night for the Eric Church concert, but made a dinner stop first at Free State Brewery in Lawrence.  It was the perfect little date night and we really enjoyed each others company.  The concert was great, too!  Lee Brice was the opening act, which was a nice surprise to both of us.

DUI Checkpoint
Of course I have to mention this!  On our way back from the concert on Friday, we went through a sobriety checkpoint - a mere block from our house!  I've always been curious about those things and was glad to finally experience one - sober, of course! :)  They are a big deal!  The police disguise it as road construction and put it in a location that is hard to see until you are right upon it.  Every car gets stopped, any passengers are escorted to the little "waiting" area, and the driver must perform the sobriety tests.  It seemed like there were 50+ police officers and there was even a mobile/trailer unit set up...though I'm not sure what it was used for.  Crazy stuff, I tell ya!  I waited about 15 or 20 minutes for Craig and though I knew he was fine to drive, a tiny part of me was still a bit nervous!  It was definitely a good place to people watch...I think I could have hung out there and watched the spectacle for hours!  Such an interesting experience!  And in case you're wondering, the hubs passed the breathalyzer with flying colors, but only after failing two of the sobriety tests first because he was so nervous!

Legends Shopping
Since we had no plans for Saturday, we headed to the Legends to hit up the Banana Republic outlet...something we typically do two or three times per year.  The hubs usually spends quite a bit of money there, but it's literally the only time/place he ever shops all year long!  I always enjoy our trips there because it's fun for me to help him pick out new clothes! :)  And the weather was perfect for a day outdoors at the Legends!  We even stopped in Carters and Gymboree with gift cards to spend, but came away from both empty-handed.  (Nothing that was the right size really jumped out at us, unfortunately.)

Grilling Out
Saturday evening we hung out on our deck, listened to music, and tried a new recipe - steak fajitas on the grill!  Definitely a keeper and something we will be making again!  Sitting on the deck and grilling are two of my favorite things!  I even made sponge cake with strawberries for dessert.  Yum!

Firepit
Later in the evening on Saturday, we sat around our fire pit in our driveway and listened to more music.  Just myself, the hubs, and the schnauz!  The schnauz even got his own chair!

Smoked Chicken
And today, we finally tested out the smoker Craig got for Christmas!  We attempted a beer-can chicken and it turned out pretty good!  Can't wait to smoke some more meat throughout the summer!

It's hard to believe next weekend is the official kick-off to summer!  I say, bring it on!  Summer means lots more great weekends to come!
