Not-So-Smart Hubby

Someday, the hubs will look back at this and laugh.  Which is why I'm blogging about it.  But I'm not sure that day is here just yet, and he definitely wasn't laughing last Friday.

***************************************************************************************

Friday was a warm day.  After work, we decided to relax and enjoy a few beers on our deck.  We dug out the chair cushions, which had been packed away all winter, and brought out the baby gate so Brantley could crawl around without tumbling down the stairs.  The sun was beaming, and though it felt amazing on my winter-white skin, we didn't want Brantley to sunburn.  So, Craig also unpacked the patio umbrella from winter storage.

Let me preface this by saying my husband is very smart.  Probably one of the smartest people I know.  But on Friday afternoon, he must have taken a dose of stupid pills, because what he did next was not the smartest thing he's ever done downright stupid.  He put the umbrella through the hole in the table.  He was planning to go back downstairs to get the base, but in the meantime, he thought he'd unroll the umbrella to block Brantley's sun.  Next thing we knew, the tiniest gust of wind came along and tipped the umbrella which caused the glass table top to shatter into a million, tiny, little pieces.  It was all in slow motion.  Or at least it seemed like it to those watching...

Craig spent the next hour cleaning, sweeping, and vacuuming pieces of glass.  They were everywere.  On our deck, in the cracks between pieces of wood, and in the rock down below.  It was a mess.  There's absolutely no way to pick each piece out of the bed of rocks below, so we'll just have to be really careful when Brantley plays in our backyard this summer!

It was an accident.  We are lucky the umbrella didn't fall towards are glass patio door, or worse, on to Brantley.  We're also lucky I was holding him at the time and he wasn't beneath the table when it shattered.  A little sad at the same time since we use that table all the time in the summer.  Now we have to shell out $125 to get the table top replaced.  It will be well-worth it though and let's hope we learned to never stand the umbrella in the hole (much less put it up) without the base to support it!

The Little Things

I swear, this has been the longest week ever!  Probably not so for my friends on Spring Break, but it sure seemed like it to me!  I've been so exhausted and fallen asleep on the couch every single night!  Not sure if it's returning to work after a week off, the rainy, dreary weather, or the time change.  I think probably a combination of all three.

Speaking of, is the sun ever going to make an appearance again?  Five straight days of rain is a bit much.  I know it's good for the grass and stuff, but seriously, not good for my health.  My weather app says sun and 77/81 degrees (Sat/Sun respectively) this weekend.  Thank goodness!  I think I will kill someone if it's not true!

At least today is Friday.  For me, that means Starbucks.  Oh, how I love thee.  It's pretty sad that I get excited every Thursday night thinking about the grande extra hot caramel macchiato to be ordered the next morning.  Today, I also ordered oatmeal.  Mmmmm.  They have the best oatmeal.  And both make me very happy.  It's the little things in life...

TGIF everyone!  Have a happy (and hopefully sunny) weekend!

Why, Yes They Are!

So, this morning I went to Starbucks for my traditional Friday drink.  It's been forever since I've been between Christmas break, my new Keurig, and not feeling well in December.  The barista (is that what they're called?) mentioned not seeing me in awhile and I told her I've been on break.  When she said it seemed even longer than that, I said "Well I'm pregnant and tried to avoid caffeine for awhile."  She congratulated me, asked how far along I was, told me I look great, etc., and then said something that caught me off guard.  "Are your boobs getting bigger?"  No worries, she did pre-empt the question with "Can I ask you something kind of personal?"  Weird!  I think she was implying that she barely recognized me because of my boob size!  Even weirder!  She then reminisced about her days of pregnancy and remembering all the fun, and not-so-fun, side effects.

To answer the question, yes, they are getting bigger...something I always wished for when I was younger.  But, believe me, it's not a fun side-effect.  They hurt like crazy and I've resorted to sleeping in a bra.  I've already gone out once and bought all new bras, up an entire size.  And I have a feeling this isn't the end of it.  Nor will it be the end of the weird pregnancy comments from the public.  Good thing I can laugh about it!

On the plus side, I have my brand name Bella Band on today.  I love it!  It's a thousand times better than the generic one from Target!  So, future mommies, spend the extra money and order one from here.  I have the grey one but am thinking about ordering another white one.  Who wouldn't love to wear their jeans unbuttoned all the time?!  It's amazing.

TGIF and have a great weekend!

Finally Friday!

It's finally Friday!  I swear this has been the longest week ever!  Six weeks to go until summatime!  (Not that I'm counting or anything...)  I don't have anything specific to blog about, so here's a follow-up to some previously mentioned things and a few other random thoughts for today.

This Weekend
We're headed to Iowa for my cousin Beth's bridal shower.  Should be fun, except for the high temps in the 50s!  I shouldn't complain, but we've been spoiled with 80s for the past two weeks!  Regardless, I'm still wearing my cute summary outfit and sandals.  I'll deal with it.

Target Giftcard
Remember that $30 Target giftcard?  It finally arrived earlier this week and I put it to good use last night!  New sandals (on clearance by the way), new sunglasses (super cute!!), AND a hat.  I wish I had pics.  I also got a cute skirt and tank top at Old Navy with some money I won in our March Madness Draft.  I love free money and I love shopping!  I definitely added on a few days to my life last night. =)

My Plants
They had to be moved inside last night.  It got a little chilly for their liking.  That's probably where they'll stay all weekend.  Poor things...

My Students
Half of my kids are sleeping.  That's right.  I'm that kind teacher.  They just took a test, and I allow them to sleep after they finish.  This particular class anyway.  They are my low-level, unmotivated, remedial kids.  If I don't let them sleep, they'd probably be talking about drugs, or getting arrested, or their paroll officer.  Yep, they are those kind of kids.  And I prefer sleeping. =)

Scary Kinnick Incident
He jumped out of the window of my car two years ago today.  Yep, true story.  We were on our way to our new house, which we had just closed on that afternoon!  As I was turning on a major intersection from a side street, Kinnick jumped out.  Luckily, the 87th street traffic had a red light and some guy jumped out of his car to help rescue Kinnick.  All I remember is shaking hysterically and looking back at Kinnick in the middle of the intersection like he didn't know what to do.  Such a scary situation.  I can't even imagine how protective I will be when I have kids.  By the way, happy 2-year anniversary to our house!

My Antenna-less Car
Funny story.  I was in a huge hurry to get to work on Tuesday, and as I backed out of the garage, I heard a noise like I'd hit something.  Turns out, the garage door didn't open all the way (Craig said it did this one other time recently) and my antenna broke off.  Oops.  I didn't even think to look in my rearview mirror to make sure the garage was open.  Oh well.  I've noticed that a lot of other cars don't have antennas either.

Photography Class
Is on Monday!  I'm super excited!

American Idol
I can't get enough of it!  I lost interest there for awhile, but the past three weeks have been fantastic!  Last week's performances were the best ever!  I've also enjoyed the recent guest-performances like Sugarland and Kelly Clarkson!  My Idol faves: Haley, Lauren, Scotty, and Casey.  And, I heard this on the radio...apparently Haley and Casey (both from Illinois) are dating.

Since it's 3:30 and I'm free to leave school, I'm off!  TGIF and have a wonderful weekend everone!

TGIF!

Here's why I love Friday!
Starbucks

Jeans days at school

Chipotle for din din (only I get a burrito bowl)

Random Thoughts on a Friday Morning

It's hard for me to get much work done during my planning period on a Friday.  Instead, I'm here, blogging - my new favorite thing!
  • It's a sad day when I have to dig my North Face fleece out of the closet. =(
  • I love my algebra 2 kids this year.  I am so lucky to have kids that finally "get it"...meaning if they pay attention and do their homework, they will do fine!  Everytime I grade tests (which is what I should be doing now), I am reminded of how great they are. =)
  • Last Mill Valley football game tonight.  Excited for the girls' halloween dance, but it's going to be SO COLD!!!
  • I hope I have some Hot Hands at home.
  • I'm trying to make a habit of going to Zumba every Tuesday/Thursday.  It's an hour-long, latin-salsa, cardio-dance workout class.  It really is a lot of fun, but my legs are pretty sore today.  It makes me want to be on Dancing With the Stars.  Or at least take ballroom dance lessons.  One thing is for sure--I give the contestants a ton of credit for learning what they do each week!
  • Looking forward to the weekend--sleeping in, friends' wedding, carving pumpkins, and greeting the little trick-or-treat kiddos Sunday...that is, if I don't eat all the candy first.
  • Congrats to the future Mr. and Mrs. Boxberger!  Looking forward to your wedding tomorrow!
  • Blog are fun!  I think more people should do them!  I love reading other blogs!
  • It's almost time for Christmas music!!!!
  • I'm going to have a student teacher starting in January!  I'm excited and nervous at the same time.  I hope he's good!
  • Seeing Both Sides - the new name of our blog.  It needed a catchy title.
  • I hope my poor little Kinnick is okay.  I flung him off the bed overnight, on accident of course.  I didn't realize he was laying on my side so when I turned over, he was thrown off.  Oops.  Sorry dude.  He seemed just fine this morning.
  • An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.  Or so they say.  It seems to be working so far this fall.  (Knock on wood.))
  • Big Hawkeye game tomorrow vs. Michigan State.  We really need to win!!  Speaking of football, KU vs. Iowa State tomorrow.  Go Jayhawks!
