Two Truths and a Lie

I saw this on a blog a few days ago and thought it would make for a fun post!  All you have to do is decide which two stories are true and which one is not!

I almost died once while white water rafting.  It was the summer before eighth grade and I was 13 years old.  My family was vacationing in Colorado and my dad had always wanted to white-water raft.  Against her will, my mom agreed to go.  All was well and we were having a grand ole time until our raft freakishly hit a massive rock in just the wrong way.  The raft started sinking and my dad, sister, and I each fell off.  Although we were wearing life jackets, they are pretty much worthless through a big rapid.  My dad pulled himself back aboard and our guide was able to pull my sister back onto the raft, but I was under water for a significant amount of time (probably only 20 seconds but to myself and my mom, it felt like forever).  I finally surfaced and was helped onto the raft.  As if that wasn't enough, the water temperature was frigid and everyone was worried about me getting hypothermia.  Needless to say, I will never white-water raft again.

I once met Jessica Simpson!  I was in college at the time and my roommate and I watched Oprah on a regular basis.  You could go onto Oprah's website and browse topics for her upcoming shows.  There were even forms to fill out if you could relate to a specific topic and by filling out a form, you could have potentially been selected as an audience member for that show.  Anyway, this was back in Jessica's Newlyweds days and I was (still am!) a huge fan!  Jessica was scheduled to be on Oprah and Oprah was searching for Jessica's biggest fan.  Naturally, I filled out a form and though I wasn't selected as her "biggest fan", I did make it into the audience and got to meet Jessica!

I once gave up Starbucks for about ten months before my wedding.  We were searching for a wedding photographer and had it narrowed down to two.  Craig preferred one simply because he was $500 less expensive than the one I preferred.  Though $500 isn't a lot in the grand scheme of planning a wedding, it is a good chunk of change, especially when the photographer is already expensive to begin!  I schemed a plan to give up Starbucks from that point forward (until the wedding) if my now-hubs would let me book the photog I wanted.  It worked.  Of course, I asked for giftcards so I didn't go completely without my caramel macchiatos, but looking back I think "Man, I was cray!"

So which one is a lie and which two are true??  The answer is in the comments!  Have a great weekend!

#LovinMaternityLeave

There are so many Facebook statuses I think about posting and then want to hashtag #LovinMaternityLeave.  But I don't.  Because I don't want to be that girl.  But since this is my blog, I can be whoever I want to be!  So I'm going to tell you many of the reasons I'm loving my time off!  Besides the obvious, of course!

Lots of time for DIY, crafty projects!  I've made a couple different necklaces (and have supplies to make a few more) and yesterday, I made a DIY t-shirt headband.  I love being crafty!

This is my next project...no this is not me

I only take showers...ehhh...maybe twice per week.  Three times max.  And it's great!  No makeup.  No blow drying my hair.  Love it.

We get to meet Daddy for lunch sometimes.  Something I never get to do when I'm working.  It's just not probable during a 22-minute lunch break, believe it or not.

Yesterday, B and I did a little shopping.  We went to the Apple store, Charming Charlie, and a new store I discovered, Love Culture!  Fun store.  Check it out.  Just like Forever 21.  I even got a couple of pairs of colored, skinny jeans that fit me really well!  I have a pretty curvy body and I'm super picky about how pants fit, but these are both comfortable and somewhat flattering! :)  Anyway, back to shopping.  I've never been to these stores when they are so empty.  It was great being one of very few customers roaming around.  Especially with a stroller in tow.  And it was a gorgeous afternoon, sunny, warm, very fall-ish.  I love fall.

I get to watch Regis & Kelly Kelly & Michael everyday.  I just love this show!  And I love the new co-host, Michael Strahan!  What I don't love is it's new time.  It's on at 10:00 now...at least here in KC...and it's on Fox.  WTH?

I was also able to watch Jessica Simpson on the Katie Couric show the other day.  And then, on GMA the following morning!  I don't care what you say, I have always and will always love that girl!  She's definitely my celeb crush.  In fact, back in her Newlyweds days, I dressed up as her for Halloween.  And another time, I tried to get in the Oprah audience because Jessica was a guest.  No such luck, unfortunately.

And of course, the #1 reason I'm #LovinMaternityLeave is because I get to look at this face all day, every day.  I'm really going to miss it when I go back to school.

Maternity Photos - The Slideshow

I just can't get enough of these!  I think I've looked through them close to a thousand times!  My friend, Jamie, did such an amazing job and I can't wait for our next photo session with her (newborn pics of Baby Sides)!  Here is a slideshow with almost all 98 of our maternity pics!

And for those that has asked, his name does begin with the letter B... :)

P.S. Some of my favorite photos are these that we copied of Jessica Simpson's Elle photo shoot...but being a teacher, I'm not sure I feel comfortable posting pics of me in my undies on the Internet, so you'll have to use your imagination! :)

Baby Maxwell

I can't help but post something about this.  Afterall, I've worshiped Jessica Simpson for almost ten years now!  Congrats to her on welcoming her little daughter, Maxwell Drew!  A whopping 9 pounds and 13 ounces.  Yikes--that's a big baby!

I think the name is cute!  A little different, but not off-the-wall, how-do-you-pronounce-that crazy.  That's my goal when choosing a name for Baby Boy Sides! :)

Can't wait to see pictures of the newest member to the Simpson clan!

P.S. Stay tuned for my 30-week pregnancy update...

It's Official

I enrolled in my first four grad school classes this morning!

Summer Session 1 (May 18 - June 22):
1) Today's Learner
2) Understanding Celebrity (My kind of class!!  I seriously tried to enroll in an education class that would be more useful, but it was full. =(  I need three liberal art electives anyway, so hello class about celebs!)

Summer Session 2 (July 13 - August 17):
1) Assessment Strategies
2) Grad Level Writing (Yuck - I'm really dreading this one.  I HATE writing!)

May 18 is the big day!  I'm so nervous!!!!!  I'm taking 2 classes each session, but only one is on-campus.  The celeb and writing classes are both online.  Each class is 6 weeks long, and my on-campus classes are from 6pm-10pm every Wednesday night.  That's seriously past my bedtime!  That last hour of class each Wednesday may be a bit of a struggle!  I got lucky that none of the classes interfer with our trip to Hawaii!

Now I have to go buy books.  Ugh--depressing.  I'd rather spend the money on fun things like clothes, jewely, and shoes.  And I still have to figure out all this financial aid stuff.  Did I mention I'm very thankful for my mom, who always took care of it during my undergrad??

TS to KC

I love Taylor Swift and she's coming to Arrowhead next fall!!!  I really want to go, but can't seem to find any friends that are big fans like me.  Craig said he'd go with me, but really??  I know deep down it isn't at the top of his "to do" list.  Hmmmm....any takers??
