Bumpdate: Week 39

So technically, I'm one day shy of 39 weeks.  But, I wanted to write and get all my thoughts down in case I go into labor overnight!

At my appointment today, I was 3-4 cm dilated and 80% effaced.  My doctor seemed quite surprised and I think Craig and I truly realized how soon Baby could come when she said, "Whoa--you've been having a lot of contractions?"  Tightening in my stomach, yes, but nothing noteworthy or painful by any means.  She also stripped my membranes.  Now, I had the same thing done at 38.5 weeks with Brantley.  A week later, I was still pregnant and therefore, induced.  So, I know having one's membranes stripped isn't a sure way to go into labor, but for some reason, I feel like this time is different!  Speaking of, I'm super nervous that I'm already 4cm dilated and worried that I could get to the hospital too late for the epidural.  I know it's probably unlikely, but I'm seriously the biggest wimp and have zero desire to attempt this without drugs!  I'm also nervous about knowing when to go to the hospital.  I know the 5-1-1 rule, but because I was induced the first time, we didn't have to spend hours at home contemplating.  I almost feel like this is foreign territory to me!

I went to grab a few groceries after leaving my doctor's appointment this afternoon, and I was so nervous, I couldn't focus.  I felt like I had a million thoughts running through my head and walked up and down each aisle a minimum of two times!  And of course, I had to leave school in a hurry today to get to my doctor's appointment.  So even though, over the past week or so, I've been obsessively making sure every single thing is done and sub-ready, today it is not.  I have make-up tests to grade, a few copies to make, and a check for lunch money to drop off to the lunch lady.

Nonetheless, I'm ready if and when Baby is!  If I were to go into labor overnight, I would be excited and thrilled!  Since having my membranes stripped around 5pm, my stomach has been tightening quite frequently!  Still nothing painful, but I think I'm mentally prepared to wake up overnight to the start of labor!

How Far Along: 39 weeks (minus 1 day)

Size of Baby: ~20 inches, ~7+ pounds; the size of a mini-watermelon (No joke about that!  I definitely feel like there's a watermelon in there!)

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: Under 35 pounds

Food Cravings: Nothing specific

Food Aversions: None

Movement: As much as he can!

Sleep: Average.

Clothing: Same.

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: The acid reflux is still here, but has subsided a little.  I haven't woken up overnight with it nearly as much.  Some swelling, sore feet, occasional restless and/or achy legs.

What I Miss: Feeling normal.

Best Moment: Learning my body is cooperating and doing exactly what it should!

Looking Forward To: Go-time!

I will update with a bump picture tomorrow, assuming I officially make it to 39 weeks. :)

*****************************************************************************

Update: Well I officially made it to 39 weeks.  I was shocked to wake up to my alarm this morning and not to contractions overnight!  Every part of me was thinking I'd go into labor overnight.  Since I didn't, I can't help but think it will still be a few days (or more).  Ugh!  I hate this waiting game!  It was probably for the best though since I left so much unfinished business at school yesterday.  But today, however, I got everything done.  Which means, I would feel a-okay about not returning tomorrow. :)  There is a full moon tonight.  I've always heard that more women have babies during full moons so I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed.  Here's my 39-week bump!

Bumpdate: Week 38

It's hard to believe I only have a couple more of these updates to go!  I could very well have a baby in my arms two weeks from now.  Heck, he could be here tomorrow for all I know!  My high school bff had a baby in February...9 days early!  That is THIS week for me!  However, no major signs that labor is looming.  And I'm still making future plans, subconsciously assuming that Baby won't come for another couple of weeks. :)

Nonetheless, I do feel a bit like a ticking time bomb.  (I think I used the same words to describe the last few weeks with Brantley.)  I leave school each day wondering if I'll be back the next day (and obsessively making sure I leave no loose ends).  And I go to bed each night wondering if I'm going to wake up to contractions. Speaking of, I still don't have my hospital bag packed.  I have a nice list printed and on my dresser, but I haven't actually thrown anything together.  I also don't have any special treats packed for the hubs, like the first time.  Sorry honey, looks like Baby isn't the only one to get the shaft the second time around.

I went on a major nesting spree this past weekend.  I made two freezer meals from scratch, alphabetized our spice rack and refilled empty spice jars, reorganized our coat closet and cold weather accessories, cleaned a random junk drawer, and went through (sorted/trashed) a year's worth of old receipts.  Things that get done very infrequently at our house, so clearly that means Baby is coming soon, right?

I had an appointment yesterday, at one day shy of 38 weeks.  My doctor did not check me, so I don't know if I've progressed any further or not.  I should know more after next Monday, as she will likely check me then.  No mention of induction yet and I'm not one to ask...I'm a very laid-back patient and just go with the flow.

I'm still feeling pretty good except for the always-present acid reflux.  And I have a horrible cough.  As if coughing isn't already annoying enough, it takes everything I have not to pee my pants each time I cough. And I'm coughing up the acid that's causing the reflux, which makes me want to puke.  Awesome, I tell ya.  This baby can't come out soon enough!

How Far Along: 38 weeks

Size of Baby: ~19.5+ inches, ~6.5+ pounds; the size of a leek

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: ???

Food Cravings: Nothing specific

Food Aversions: None

Movement: Still moving, despite his limited space.  Lots of pressure at times, as he pushes outward on my stomach.

Sleep: Average.  I just can't get comfortable.  It's a cruel joke that pregnant women don't sleep well the last few weeks of pregnancy, since it will become even worse after baby is born.

Clothing: Dresses, skirts, and tank tops and loving it!

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: Achy, tingly hands, especially in the mornings.  Sore feet, occasional restless and/or achy legs, acid reflux, Braxton Hicks (only maybe fewer than I felt a week ago?).  I've officially done away with my wedding band.  I could probably still shove it on, but it's not the most comfortable and I don't want to risk it getting stuck.

What I Miss: My usual spring wardrobe.

Best Moment: The nesting accomplishments felt pretty good.

Looking Forward To: My last week and a half of school - 8 days to go!

Here's the bump!  A co-worker said I'm carrying high?  I think it's just my normal.  I've definitely noticed my fuller-than-normal face lately. :(

Bumpdate: Week 37

It's April - BABY MONTH (hopefully) - and, according to some sources, Baby is officially full term!  I've known multiple friends that have gone into labor around 37 weeks, so I'm reminding myself that it could happen any day now!  Of course, I'm not holding my breath either, but I've had a strong intuition over these last few days that he's coming early.  I still need to pack my hospital bag, but the base to our infant car seat is installed {once again}, so we're ready to bring home a baby!  And man, if having two car seats in the backseat doesn't make you feel old, I'm not sure what does!

At my appointment yesterday, I was dilated a "tight" 2cm.  Not surprising to me because my Braxton Hicks contractions have returned big time just in the last couple of days.  My cervix was still "thick, but soft."  Good signs that my body is prepping nicely, according to my doc.  I hope this means a quick and easy labor, like last time.  I've been having dreams about the labor/delivery process and even woke up last night thinking I was in labor due to some painful, period-like cramps.  Luckily, I fell back asleep and the cramps disappeared, but my mind was sure going in all different directions there for awhile!

How Far Along: 37 weeks

Size of Baby: ~19+ inches, ~6 1/3 pounds; the size of a bunch of Swiss chard

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: 30ish pounds?  Not sure...

Food Cravings: Nothing specific

Food Aversions: None

Movement: Still moving in there, but I feel the space getting tighter, for sure!  Hiccups nearly every day.

Sleep: Okay this week.  I've been hot, uncomfortable, and woken up to pretty bad acid reflux.

Clothing: The same.

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: The same - acid reflux, restless legs, sore feet, tingly/achy hands, a semi-popped belly button, and Braxton Hicks galore!  With the warm weather comes swelling, as well.  I've gone without my wedding band the last few days, but luckily, my engagement ring still fits.

What I Miss: Counting down the days until I can drink an icy, cold beverage.

Best Moment: Learning of my body's progress!

Looking Forward To: Meeting Baby H!

Here's my bump!  As a co-worker exclaimed at school today, "Whoa, you're getting big!"  Of course, I took it in stride (and laughed), but note--this isn't something you typically say to a pregnant lady!

And a comparison pic...

Bumpdate: Week 36

Well, we're down to four weeks until d-day!  That's less than a month!  Of course, I realize I could still be pregnant in a month's time, but I'm hoping to have this baby right around my due date (April 22)!  I hate being late to things (and I hate waiting on habitually late people), so I have a feeling that a late baby might make me slightly annoyed!  But like I've been saying for a few weeks, I also don't want to have this baby too soon because of my perfectly-planned maternity leave.  The thought of leaving unfinished business and/or ungraded papers for my sub stresses me out big time.  As does not saying good-bye to my students.  It sure was easier to plan for a baby in July like last time!

As for my intuition on when he'll arrive?  I don't know that I have one yet!  And if I'm being honest, it still doesn't feel quite real that we're going to be a family of four in such a short amount of time!

Our "to-buy" list for Baby #2 is now complete.  There wasn't much on it.  Some warmer-weather newborn clothes, letters to spell his name above the crib, an extra camera for our video monitor, and a double stroller. Check, check, check, and check!  We finally decided on a double stroller - the lightweight, narrow, and easy-to-fold Joovy Caboose Ultralight that allows the older child to sit or stand on the back.  I had so many Facebook friends recommend this brand/model and as soon as one of my co-workers showed me hers, I was sold.  We got lucky and found one on Craigslist--a $260 stroller for $70!  Yes please!  A huge thank you to another co-worker of mine, Lindsey, for picking it up in Manhattan on her way back from Colorado!

Here's Brantley testing it out last week!  He approved and was a proud BIG BOY sitting on the back!  I can't wait to use it for real!

How Far Along: 36 weeks

Size of Baby: ~18.5+ inches, ~6 pounds; the size of a head of romaine lettuce

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: 29-30 pounds

Food Cravings: Sweets and ice cream...every night after dinner

Food Aversions: None

Movement: I know he's supposedly getting bigger and running out of room, but I still feel him moving in there quite frequently!  Feeling appendages through my skin, as well.  Though it's cool, that will never not freak me out!  I've had some co-workers ask if he's dropped...but honestly, I can't tell a difference and could never tell with Brantley, either.

Sleep: Decent to great!

Clothing: Trying to spice up my maternity wardrobe (see below).  I'm getting tired of the non-variety, but I am still appreciating the spring-time clothes!

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: The newest - sore, achy, and restless legs!  I truly feel sorry for people who have to deal with this all the time.  It's miserable!  I've noticed my hands/arms falling asleep easier (like when I blow dry my hair??) and my hands have been really sore and achy (carpel-tunnelish) in the mornings.  My belly button, which has also always been flat throughout both of my pregnancies, is starting to pop!  I guess that means Baby is fully cooked! :)  And the usual - acid reflux.  I will say I don't feel quite as tired/exhausted/big as I did a few weeks ago, but perhaps I'm just coming to the realization that I won't be pregnant much longer.  *Tear*

What I Miss: Shopping for regular clothes, especially now that my fave places (Target) have busted out their sun dresses and spring clothes!

Best Moment: Getting our double stroller and being really excited to put it to good use!

Looking Forward To: The unknown of these next four(ish) weeks!  Here we go!

And the bump.  I swear it's there.  It just blends in...and my photographer (i.e. hubby) doesn't notice things like that!

Bumpdate: Week 35

I absolutely cannot believe I'm five short weeks away from my due date!  Though we're as ready for Baby as can be, I feel like the time is just ticking and the countdown is truly on!  Having been through (and survived) labor and delivery once before, I've been the least bit nervous about that whole process this time around (and more nervous about life with two kids), but the nerves are growing as my due date gets closer.  The pain, the IVs, the pain, the potential problems, the pain, the unknown...I'd be lying if I said I still wasn't worried!

I had an appointment yesterday - the last appointment at 2-week intervals and now I start going weekly!  Fortunately (or unfortunately...I can't quite decide), I haven't progressed any down there and was zero centimeters dilated.  Not surprising because I haven't noticed many contractions.  (At 35.5 weeks with Brantley, I was already one centimeter.)  Like I said last week though, I'd like Baby to stay put until I get through the next four weeks of school, so maybe it's good my cervix is still closed.

I'm feeling good other than horrible headaches and acid reflux.  Today was actually the first day in about a week that I was completely sans headache.  I don't know that they were pregnancy related headaches, but being pregnant sure makes them worse when it means no ibuprofen.  The acid reflux is also in full force each evening and often wakes me up overnight due to the awful burning/tingling in the throat.

How Far Along: 35 weeks

Size of Baby: ~18+ inches, 5 1/4 pounds; the size of a honeydew melon

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: 28-29 pounds.  Anything beyond this is uncharted territory for me...yikes!  Keeping my fingers crossed to gain less than 35 total, though still eating cookies and ice cream in the meantime. :)

Food Cravings: None

Food Aversions: None

Movement: A lot of pressure as he pushes his body parts outwards against my belly.  I felt him hiccup for the first time last Wednesday, at 34 weeks & 1 day.  And now I've noticed him hiccuping about once per night ever since.  I also woke up last Thursday to the sorest, most-bruised ribs of my life.  I seriously felt like I had been through an awful fight.  Which was weird because I didn't ever notice the baby kicking my ribs or movement that was anything out of the ordinary.  Thankfully, they've healed and I feel back to normal, but that was definitely the sorest I've felt throughout both of my pregnancies!

Sleep: Not great, but not bad either.  Most of my complaints are due to acid reflux.

Clothing: Still loving my spring maternity wardrobe!

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: Acid reflux, a few more Charlie-horse type leg cramps, minimal swelling (rings are still on!), sore feet that constitute foot rubs from the hubs every couple of days.  :)

What I Miss: My regular clothes and an ice-cold beer on our deck, especially since we've been grilling out!

Best Moment: Spring Break this week!!!!  And I had a pedi last Friday, which was pretty great, too.  I told her I was 34 weeks pregnant, which I think earned me a few extra minutes on the foot rub!

Looking Forward To: My last month of pregnancy #2.

Here's my bump!  I feel as if it's more pointy this time??

Bumpdate: Week 34

34.weeks.pregnant.

This is the week of pregnancy that I was born!  Which is crazy to me!  And definitely a bit of a wake up call!  I realize it's highly unlikely, but I could go into labor any day now!  As ready as I am to get this baby out, I'd really prefer to wait until 39.5 weeks.  Simply due to a little thing called work.  I'm a major planner and I know I won't do well if I happen to go into labor early...leaving on a whim, not having sub plans ready, not tying up all loose ends, not saying good-bye to my students...it stresses me out just thinking about it.  My last official day is already planned for April 18 and it just so happens to be a nice transition point in each of my classes.  A nice day (a Friday) for me to say good-bye and for the sub to start her long-term duty.  Let alone the fact that I don't want to take any more time away - unpaid.  Which is what happens the second time around when you don't have as many sick days built up.  I'll be paid for two weeks.  But the other three?  Not so much.  So, Baby, if you could please stay put for now, you are welcome anytime after April 18. :)

At 34 weeks pregnant, I can say we've officially decided on a name.  One week later than we did with Brantley. :)  His initials: HBS.  We haven't been as secretive with the name this time around and have mentioned it to some friends and family members.  Still, I'm not sure I'll post on here until after he's born.  When you do, you always open the door to criticism and unwanted opinions and the last thing I want to do is start doubting our decision.  Besides, an element of surprise is always nice!

How Far Along: 34 weeks

Size of Baby: ~18 inches, 4 3/4 pounds; the size of a cantaloupe

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: 26-27 pounds

Food Cravings: None.

Food Aversions: None

Movement: The same

Sleep: Okay.  I've been waking up (sometimes multiple times per night) due to horrible acid reflux in my throat.

Clothing: Spring maternity dresses for two days in a row now!!!  And it's been amazing!  I love my spring/summer maternity clothes!  So much comfier than winter pants and long sleeves!  To those who say that being pregnant in the hot, humid summer months is miserable...you're crazy.  I much prefer it to winter!

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: Braxton Hicks - maybe once per day?  Acid reflux galore, especially overnight.  Charlie-horse type legs cramps overnight and/or in the early morning hours, shortly before getting out of bed (not every night, just a few times).  Some swelling, though nothing consistent.  (My rings still fit and I don't yet have cankles...)  Weird side aches/cramps, almost like I need to stretch.  I can tell things are getting less roomy in there.  I still feel huge and uncomfortable, especially come 7pm each day.

What I Miss: Everything about being not pregnant.

Differences from First Pregnancy: I remember loving every moment of my pregnancy with Brantley.  I don't remember feeling miserable like I do this time.  Or maybe that's just my memory deceiving me because Craig seems to remember it.  I'm definitely not loving being pregnant {as much} this time.  Maybe it's because I'm still working, or because I have a toddler to care for, or because I can't rest as much?  I feel so much bigger and less comfortable this time.  40 weeks can't come soon enough!

Best Moment: Three days in a row of spring/summer-like temps!  Which meant wearing my lightweight, ultra-comfy, spring maternity clothes and sandals!  And grilling out.  And going for walks.  Also, seeing the third quarter at school come to an end - my last full quarter of the school year!  It seemed so far away in October when I announced my pregnancy...

Looking Forward To: Spring Break next week.  And my last four weeks of the school year once break is over!  Hooray!

Bumpdate: Week 33

The weeks seem to be flying by at warp speed!  I'm a mere seven weeks from my due date and {hopefully} having a baby NEXT month!

Call it nesting, or just call it finding things to keep me occupied while winter drags on, but I unpacked and organized all of Brantley's 0 to 12 month clothing over the weekend.  The nursery drawers are crammed full, as is the closet!  I was in awe at the size of the newborn/0-3 month items and could hardly believe Brantley was, at one time, that small!  Not gonna lie, it made me feel more excited about having a wee little, newborn around!  I also went on a minor shopping spree for Baby over the weekend...but shopping at a consignment sale...on half-price day...so I like to think in terms of how much money I saved. :)  While the seasons for Brantley and Baby #2 are close (July vs. April), I realized there's a chance Baby #2 will need some warmer weather newborn stuff.  So that's what I bought!  Well, that and some cute, summer stuff, too, that I simply couldn't pass up!

It's crazy that my school days remaining this year are limited!  5 1/2 weeks to go, which is really only like 14 of each block!  Speaking of, I've never worked past 33 weeks pregnant.  With Brantley, 33 weeks meant the start of summer break.  The thought of going into labor while at school still terrifies me.  As does going into labor early (i.e. before my sub is supposed to start).  I'm such a planner and wish I could see into the future to see how this all goes down!

I had a doctor's appointment on Monday.  It was very routine, except for having to get the TDAP (whooping cough) shot.  It didn't hurt to get, but man my arm has been super sore ever since!  According to my doctor, my belly measured very normal.  I swear I'm much bigger this time around...

How Far Along: 33 weeks

Size of Baby: ~17 inches, a little over 4 pounds; the size of a pineapple

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: Holding steady at 25-26 pounds

Food Cravings: Nothing specific

Food Aversions: None

Movement: The same

Sleep: Experienced the worst night of sleep in a long time last Thursday.  I woke up around 2am with one of the worst headaches of my life.  I laid there for nearly two hours unable to sleep because my head was pounding so violently.  I even cried at times.  I finally caved and took Tylenol.  I fell back asleep, but felt pretty awful the following day.  (I was trying not to take Tylenol after the study was published last week linking Tylenol to ADHD in unborn children.)  I've been sleeping fine since, and I'm happy to report, the headaches have since subsided.  Thank goodness!

Clothing: Same

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: Braxton Hicks (though not as often) and daily acid reflux.  I've also been getting really hot while teaching.  Like sweat dripping-down-my-shirt hot.  And pure exhaustion by 8pm.

What I Miss: I'm not trying to sound conceited, but I miss my old body.  I look at pictures from last summer and even pictures from the early weeks of pregnancy and I can't believe how small I was.  Pregnancy is definitely showing everywhere on me...in my stomach, face, etc.  (And I'm not a super skinny person by any means....very average in my opinion.)  I'm just feeling super huge this time around and can't wait to be back to my old self!

Best Moment: Feeling accomplished after organizing the nursery drawers and closet!  And getting some great deals on some super cute, name brand clothes at the consignment sale!

Looking Forward To: These last five weeks of my 2013-14 school year!

It's been awhile since I did a comparison picture...

Bumpdate: 32 Weeks

Forgive me for being a day late with this prego update.  There were more important things last night.  Like the special Tuesday-night episode of The Bachelor. :)

No major thoughts this week.  Though it does seem crazy that I'm already making plans for May.  Like travel plans to Iowa.  That revolve around a second baby!  And did I mention the hubs has to go out of town for work for a week in May and again in June?!  I'm already terrified.  Hence, the potential traveling to Iowa to--fingers crossed--have some help from the fam!  Though I'm trying to figure out if it'll be more work to pack and drive to Iowa alone with two kids, or more work to stay at home and care for two kids alone...

How Far Along: 32 weeks

Size of Baby: ~16.7 inches, 3 3/4 pounds; the size of a jicama

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: 25 pounds, the same as last week = relief!

Food Cravings: Nothing specific

Food Aversions: None

Movement: The same

Sleep: Back to sleeping pretty well!

Clothing: Same--maternity pants, long sleeve maternity tops, dresses with leggings.  Turns out, I don't love winter maternity clothing like I do summer!  What I wouldn't give to wear my maternity skirts...

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: The frequency of Braxton Hicks seems to have lessened, but maybe I'm just getting used to them so much that I don't notice them?  I'm back to wearing my wedding band every day and have worn the same shoes that killed my feet a week ago every other day this week--so swelling must have subsided.  Some acid reflux here and there.  5+ days in a row of headaches, but I think it's more weather than hormone/pregnancy-related.  Mostly just uncomfortable and big-feeling.

What I Miss: The ability to have my back popped.  I've had a headache everyday for what seems like forever now and I often think it would improve if the hubs could just pop my back to release some tension.  But since I can't lay on my stomach, it's not really an option. :(

Best Moment: Realizing I only have to work seven more work weeks this school year, INCLUDING this week!  Then, no work until August!

Looking Forward To: Spring Break in 2 1/2 weeks!

Bumpdate: 31 Weeks

We're down to single digit weeks to go!  Assuming the baby comes on time, that is!  Since I was induced with Brantley, I have no idea what to expect this time around.  Speaking of being induced, oh how I'd love to do that again!  No guessing about when to go to the hospital, no suffering through hours of contractions at home first, no surprise phone call to parents who are 2.5 and 4 hours away, no chance of my water breaking at school...the list could go on and on.  With Brantley, I really wanted to experience going into labor on my own, but now looking back, and realizing how nicely my body responded to induction, I'd happily agree if it were an option again!

At 31 weeks pregnant, I feel like I did at 39 weeks before.  I feel HUGE.  And heavy.  And quite miserable at times, if I'm being honest.  Things seems to wear me out like never before.  Even something as simple as carrying a laundry basket up a flight of stairs is exhausting.  It's nearly impossible to bend over or squat down and trying to sit Indian-style to read books to Brantley is almost painful!  I get so tired at school, especially on days when I teach three blocks in a row.  Seriously, maternity leave (even partially unpaid) is sounding better and better each day!  And so is having this baby on time!

For the first time over the weekend, I noticed that I'm starting to swell.  I put on a pair of flats to wear and felt as if my feet were bulging out.  After attempting for five minutes, I couldn't bear to wear them any longer and opted for looser boots instead.  I also went without my wedding band over the weekend as I felt it was cutting off my circulation, but I'm back to wearing it today.  I have a feeling my days are limited.  (Call me crazy, self-conscious, whatever, but I hate not wearing a wedding ring while pregnant!  Luckily, my engagement ring is looser and should fit for awhile longer still.)  I also feel like my face is a little fuller in my bump picture this week.  Ugh.  And I still have nine weeks to go...

How Far Along: 31 weeks

Size of Baby: ~16+ inches, 3 1/3 pounds; the size of a coconut (and according to Baby Center, heading into a growth spurt...)

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: 25 pounds - only 4 below my total weight gain with Brantley :(

Food Cravings: Nothing specific

Food Aversions: None

Movement: Feeling kicks, punches, and somersault-like movements.  It's so weird watching my stomach jump from the outside.  He often pushes his butt(?) up against my upper stomach and I even felt an appendage when I pushed back the other day.

Sleep: I had been sleeping great, until last night when I woke up with the worst acid reflex ever.  I could literally feel it fizzing and tingling in my throat.  Not a good feeling.  I tried to prop my head up higher, thinking that might help, but that's not an easy thing to do when trying to lay on your left side and stay comfortable at the same time.

Clothing: So ready for skirts and dresses and flip flops!  Even my maternity pants are feeling less and less comfortable.

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: The Braxton Hicks contractions are becoming more and more frequent - about once every hour or two.  They have never hurt, but at times can be really uncomfortable.  Other symptoms include swelling, acid reflux, uncomfortableness.

What I Miss: Sleeping on my stomach and just being able to get around easily.

Best Moment: My 4-day weekend.  Thank you Parent Teacher Conferences and President's Day.

Whoa Moment: Scheduling a hair appointment for this week, only so I can go again eight weeks later--which will be right before Baby's arrival!  Also, discussing future travel plans with my doctor.  I can't believe I'm going to be 35 weeks so soon!!

Looking Forward To: March and everything about that month!

Bumpdate: 30 Weeks

Somehow I went from 10 to 30 weeks in the blink of an eye!  I cannot believe it's mid-February already and this baby will be here in just over two months!  Nor can I believe I'm only ten weeks from my due date and seven weeks from being considered "full term".  I'm definitely getting more excited (and less nervous) as my BFFs recently welcome their new babies into the world!  (Congrats to high school bestie, Sarah, on the birth of Adrian Michael, and college bestie, Casey, on the birth of Lincoln Norval!)  Still nervous, but excited seeing all the newborn pictures and hearing their birth stories. :)

We went for our level 2 sonogram last Friday and thankfully, everything looked great!  The technician checked the brain ventricles first and foremost and both measured well under the 10mm mark that Brantley's measured at this point.  Everything else appeared normal, as well, and as far as we know, that was our last sonogram before Baby's arrival.  The technician went a little overboard and printed about 15 photos for us, so I scanned eight of them below.

I also got the official word that I passed my glucose test.  Thank.goodness.  Back for another OB appointment this Friday!  As far as how I'm feeling, not much has changed.  Same symptoms, though I feel much larger than I did at this point with Brantley.

How Far Along: 30 weeks

Size of Baby: ~15.7 inches, 3 pounds; the size of a large cabbage

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: Still not sure.  Weighing myself hasn't been a top priority.

Food Cravings: Nothing specific

Food Aversions: None

Movement: Same as last week.  He's pretty active in there!  Sore right-side ribs, oftentimes in the evenings, and kicks to my bladder.

Sleep: Sleeping great!

Clothing: Same.

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: Same - acid reflux, Braxton Hicks, uncomfortableness, feeling the urge to pee often, even ten minutes after I go.  I don't think I'm swelling too much yet, however, and my rings still fit!

What I Miss: Being able to move quickly and easily. Being able to easily stand up from a sitting position. Not feeling so exhausted by day's end.

Best Moment: Learning at our sono that Baby is developing normally.  I feel like this pregnancy has gone much smoother than my first (at least in recent weeks).

Whoa Moment: Buying a new bottle of pre-natal vitamins (a 90-count) and relaxing that once they're gone, Baby will be here!

Looking Forward To: The ten-week countdown is on! And spring. Definitely spring. Warmer weather, lighter clothes, and walks around our neighborhood.

Bumpdate: Week 29

Week 29 brought my first official snow day of the 2013-14 school year!  I've been waiting for those two little words for some time now.  And as ready as I am for spring, I'll never argue a snow day!  Snow days, to me, mean no make-up and no shower, so please excuse the photo below!  I put a hat on in an attempt to look presentable. :)

I had my sixth appointment last Friday.  It included the infamous glucose test, as well as a Rhogam shot for my negative blood type.  Still awaiting the results from my glucose test, with my fingers crossed, of course.  Since I failed the initial test with Brantley, my doctor suggested I fast in preparation for this one.  So that I did.  I didn't eat anything from dinner on Thursday until I left the doctor's office on Friday morning at 9am.  And boy was I hungry!  Here's hoping it did the trick so that I don't have to go back for the three hour test this go-around!

I'm also to the point in this pregnancy where I start going to doctor appointments every two weeks.  Which is exciting and annoying all in one.  They are a pain to schedule around my work schedule and I hate asking people to cover my classes.  And they always seem so anti-climactic.  But at the same time, it's going to make these last 11 weeks go so super fast, I just know it!

We had a level 2 sonogram scheduled for today, but it was rescheduled {for Friday} due to the snowstorm.  We're keeping our fingers crossed that everything has developed normally since our last look at Baby #2, but we also know that we'll get through whatever challenges are thrown our way.  Nonetheless, prayers for a healthy baby would be appreciated!

How Far Along: 29 weeks

Size of Baby: ~15 inches, 2 1/2 pounds; the size of a butternut squash

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: Not sure.  I forgot to weigh myself this morning.

Food Cravings: I always seem to need something sweet after meals...even though chocolate seems to trigger acid reflux.

Food Aversions: None

Movement: This has been the most active week yet!  I've been trying to look for patterns in Baby's schedule, but haven't really noticed any.  He seems to move frequently all throughout the day and evening.  I hope this isn't a sign that he's a baby that never sleeps...

Sleep: Still sleeping well!  Trying to appreciate my early bedtimes and {somewhat} late wake times now because I know it will all change in a few months.

Clothing: Same.

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: Acid reflux and Braxton Hicks contractions.  Just an overall feeling of uncomfortableness--and it always gets worse as the day goes on.

What I Miss: Being able to move quickly and easily.

Best Moment: Today = snow day.  Another one tomorrow!

Looking Forward To: Our sonogram on Friday.  I think my mom is making a special trip to KC to be part of it.  (Weather permitting)

Bumpdate: Week 28

Welcome, third trimester!  It seems so unreal.  Before, my third trimester meant spring, summer, skirts, flip flops, shorts, tank tops, and days at the pool.  So of course, that's how I remember it and what I associate with being this far along.  Which is maybe partially to blame for why it doesn't feel real (or right) quite yet?  I just can't get over the fact that I'm having a baby in less than three months.  Of course, that's if he comes on time.  I suppose I could still be waddling around miserably three months from now.  And I may change my mind about this as that date approaches, but for now, I don't even think I'd mind.  A few extra days of life-as-I-know-it doesn't sound all that bad as compared to life with a newborn and a 21-month old. :)

(Seriously though, I'm super excited to be expanding our family...just a tad a lot nervous if you haven't picked up on that!)

Plans for Baby #2 are lining up nicely.  My maternity leave/long-term sub is official.  We have a place for Brantley if and when I go into labor.  (Thanks neighbors!)  And we have guaranteed a spot for Baby #2 at daycare next fall.  All pretty big weights off our shoulders!  Kind of like how Baby is just hanging out and packing on the pounds at this point, I feel like we have most of our ducks in a row and now we just wait.  12 weeks to go.

How Far Along: 28 weeks

Size of Baby: ~14.8 inches, 2 1/4 pounds; the size of an eggplant

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: 20-21 pounds

Food Cravings: No specifics

Food Aversions: None

Movement: Movin' and groovin' in there multiple times per day.

Sleep: I started not sleeping well because I was getting really hot overnight.  (Weird, it's January and negative degrees out.)  I switched to a lighter blanket and I'm back to sleeping like a baby.

Clothing: Same.  Though I wear the same three pairs of work pants all week long.

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: The usual - Braxton Hicks and minor acid reflux

What I Miss: Being able to bend over/squat down easily.  Getting Brantley dressed, giving him a bath, changing his diaper, etc. is getting much harder (and super exhausting) these days.

Best Moment: Entering into the third trimester.  I love the big milestones.

Looking Forward To: Is it bad that I'm already looking forward to spring break?

And this kid seems to be catching on to our weekly photo shoots.  Week two of going to stand by the sign as soon as I hang it, so here's his 28-week photo, too! :)

Bumpdate: Week 27

27 weeks today.  27 weeks is very bittersweet to me because it was this day on-the-dot when we learned of Brantley's hydrocephalus.  The very next day is when it was confirmed at our level 2 sonogram at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.  We are headed back there in a couple of weeks for our second level 2 sono of this pregnancy...assuming nothing has changed and Baby's brain is developing normally (as it appeared at 19 weeks), it should be our final sonogram of this pregnancy.  I've been on a high dose of folic acid (4mg) since about three months pre-pregnancy to cut the risk of any neural tube defects...but I also know that since hydrocephalus could be carried in one of my genes (as they explained early on in this pregnancy), Baby #2 has a risk of developing the issue, as well.  Even so, I'm not necessarily worried for our sonogram, but I'd lying if I said 27 weeks didn't bring about a whole slew of emotions for me.

Despite it being January (and the most blah time of the year, in my opinion), time is still flying!  January 21 already??  Which means my due date is exactly three months and one day away!  I seriously can't keep up!  At my pre-natal massage on Saturday, the therapist asked how far along I was and I couldn't remember for the life of me whether I was 26 or 27 weeks.  Last night, I was reading my 27th-week update from my pregnancy with Brantley and I was floored that that's when I started going to doctor appointments every two weeks!  It's getting real, that's for sure!

As for my weight gain, I'm up 20 pounds.  At this point with Brantley, I was up 14.  And I only gained 29 total with him.  Something tells me I'm going to surpass that 29-pound mark easily this time.  BUT, I weighed about five pounds less to begin this time, so it's all relative, right?  And do you think I have altered my diet because of the extra six pounds I've gained?  Nope, not at all!  In fact, last night, I ate nearly a whole pint of Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter World ice cream.  And in the past week, I've downed three of my birthday cupcakes and a piece of Cheesecake Factory cheesecake. :)  What can I say--I love my sweets!  I've never been one to stress about my weight--pregnant or not--and I'm definitely not going to start now!

One more story.  Brantley is just starting to catch on that there's a baby in Mama's belly.  Last week, completely unprompted, he walked over to me sitting on the floor, pointed to my belly and said "baby" and then hugged and kissed it.  Probably the sweetest thing I've witnessed thus far!  He's going to be a great big brother!

How Far Along: 27 weeks

Size of Baby: ~14.5 inches, 2 pounds; the size of a head of cauliflower

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: 20 pounds

Food Cravings: Nothing really, though {clearly} I can't get enough sweets!

Food Aversions: None

Movement: Often, though still not protruding body parts.

Sleep: Great!

Clothing: Still fit into a few of my looser-fitting non-maternity shirts.  Otherwise, all maternity pants and mostly maternity shirts.  Soooo ready for my spring maternity clothes!!

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: Nothing major.  Braxton Hicks a couple times per day, acid reflux (throat burn) every now and then, stiff hands in the mornings (but still not as bad as with Brantley). My wedding rings still fit and I don't think I'm swelling too much just yet!

What I Miss: I love my maternity clothes, but I sort of miss the assortment and selection of my non-maternity wardrobe.

Best Moment: Definitely that pre-natal massage!!!!  I'd sure love another one of those before April 22 rolls around!

Looking Forward To: February?  Hopefully some snow days?  Either that, or an early spring.  I'd gladly take either.

Don't mind the random head in the bottom left :)

Bumpdate: Week 26

So I had my first random belly touching experience.  I gained a few new students this semester and on the second day of having one of them in class, she asked if she could feel the baby kicking in my belly!  I usually don't get too weirded out by this, but c'mon, it was her second day of class and I'm her teacher!  I wasn't sure how to respond, so I scrambled to say, "Well, he's not moving at this instant....but I'll let you know if he starts!"  Oddly enough (wink wink), Baby hasn't moved yet during her block...  I'm sure her intentions were well, and there are definitely students I wouldn't mind touching my belly...I guess I was just taken aback by her directness on the second day of class!

Another weird prego side effect - I went to the eye doctor for a regular check up and apparently, my eyes have changed significantly - both my prescription and astigmatism.  My doctor said it could be due to pregnancy and all the crazy hormones in my body right now.  Weird though, because I went after having Brantley and my prescription hadn't changed one bit!  The doctor told me that things could very well "normalize" after having this baby...but likely not until I'm done breast feeding.  It's crazy to me how pregnancy affects more than you ever imagined possible!  (After having Brantley, I went to the dentist and had something like eight cavities!  That was not fun!)

I'm still feeling pretty good and trying to fathom that I'm 26 weeks into this pregnancy!  According to my Baby Center app, the countdown to Baby's due date has gone from triple to double digits this week!  98 days and counting...  98 days of normalcy to prepare for life with two kids...  Heaven, help me!

How Far Along: 26 weeks

Size of Baby: ~14 inches, 1 2/3 pounds; the size (length) of a green onion

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: 19-20 pounds

Food Cravings: Sweets...cookies and ice cream...I always feel the need for dessert after dinner!

Food Aversions: None

Movement: I can definitely tell the baby is getting longer.  I feel distinct kicks and punches quite often throughout the day, as well as see my belly jump and thump from the outside.  Haven't felt any protruding body parts yet, but I have a feeling it's not too far away!

Sleep: Sleeping pretty well still.  I always start out on my left side, hugging my Snoogle, but often wake up on my back and/or on my right side.

Clothing: Still about 90/10.  I feel like I went on a major shopping spree over the weekend after finding a bag of maternity clothes (mostly jeans) a friend had given me!  I knew I had her old clothes (as most of them have been hanging in my closet for 2+ months), but didn't realize there was a second bag hidden in our basement!  Hello six or more pairs of jeans!!  Now, if only I could wear the jeans to work on a daily basis... :(

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: Acid reflux on occasion (Seems to be brought on by chocolate, but do you think I've given up eating chocolate??  Heck no!!), Braxton Hicks a few times per day, especially when I use my stomach muscles, worsening of vision, sore hands in the mornings, but not as bad as it has been (and was with Brantley).

What I Miss: The usual.  98(ish) days til I can have a beer! :)

Best Moment: Hearing from people (co-workers) that I finally look pregnant!  Haha.  I've had a few of those comments since returning from winter break!  Like my pregnancy with Brantley, I always take it as a compliment. :)

Looking Forward To: Spring!!  We had a pretty warm weekend (60 on Sunday) and it was nice to go for a walk and venture out to the park.  Also looking forward to my spring maternity clothes (minus the white, pasty legs under the skirts)!  I'm getting rather sick of my pants and long-sleeve options.

Here's my 26-week bump!  I don't think I realize how big I am until looking at a picture!

Bumpdate: Week 25

We had our fifth(?) doctor's appointment last Friday.  Baby's heartbeat was around 140-something.  It's funny how the stats are less memorable the second time around. :)

I'm feeling great and very little has changed since last week, so I'm gonna get right to the bumpdate!

How Far Along: 25 weeks

Size of Baby: ~13.5 inches, 1.5 pounds; the size of a rutabaga

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: Not as awful as I thought it would be after the holidays...19 pounds.  I'll take it.  Though something tells me I might gain more than the 29 pounds I gained last time when all is said and done.

Food Cravings: None

Food Aversions: None really

Movement: Feeling this baby multiple times per day.

Sleep: Sleeping well for the most part.

Clothing: Lots of sweats, sweatshirts, and leggings over break, but now I'm back to work. :(  Loving my new pants from Old Navy!  They are very refreshing after squeezing into my pre-prego jeans for the last 25 weeks!

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: Acid reflux on occasion, though not as bad as it has been (and as it was with Brantley).  Braxton Hicks a few times per day, but nothing painful by any means.

What I Miss: Lately, being able to sleep on my stomach.

Best Moment: Finishing Brantley's "big boy" room and preparing the nursery for a new baby.  However, it was also the worst moment.  Turns out, I'm pretty sentimental about my first baby growing up!

Looking Forward To: Enjoying these last 15 weeks of pregnancy.  And not wishing for it to be over already--because let's face it, I'm a bit terrified for Baby #2!

Bumpdate: Week 24

Here it is - my final pregnancy update of 2013!  I've got 45 more minutes to type and post this before we ring in the new year!  (Crazy NYE plans, right?!)  It's so crazy that 2014 will bring a second baby to our little family of three.  Even crazier that there are only about 15 weeks remaining until that happens!  And even crazier that I've been in my second trimester for ten whole weeks now and the third is only about a month away!  Nonetheless, I'm ready for the next 15ish weeks and look forward to the amazing year ahead!

How Far Along: 24 weeks

Size of Baby: ~12 inches, just over a pound; the size of an ear of corn

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: Yikes...I've eaten so much lately with the holidays and all.  I'm already dreading getting on that scale at my doctor's appointment on Friday...

Food Cravings: Nothing specific, but lots of sweets and desserts.

Food Aversions: Still not in the cooking-mood, but nothing has been a true aversion.

Movement: Feeling my stomach jump and thump from the outside.

Sleep: Sleeping great.

Clothing: Still squeezing into my pre-prego jeggings.  Thank goodness for this one pair of jeggings...but I wear them about five days per week!  I ordered a few new pairs of maternity jeans from Old Navy...waiting on them to arrive and crossing my fingers that they work!

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: Heartburn/acid reflux was in full force for a few days around Christmas.  Pepcid and Tums, galore!  But surprisingly, I haven't felt it since!

What I Miss: Nothing specific this week.

Best Moment: Christmas was pretty fantastic.

Looking Forward To: Saying hello to 2014 later tonight!

Bumpdate: Week 23

Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!  I'm 23 weeks today, on the 24th!  Due date is less than four months away, so I guess that puts me at over five months pregnant!  I still find that pretty hard to believe and with each day that passes, I'd say I'm getting more and more nervous about being a mom of two!

How Far Along: 23 weeks

Size of Baby: ~11 inches, just over a pound; the size of a large mango

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: I'm not sure I want to know...

Food Cravings: I've been wanting steak and potatoes, but in this weather, it's hard to grill steak...Texas Roadhouse to the rescue!

Food Aversions: Still not really in the cooking mood, unfortunately.

Movement: I've been feeling the baby kick/punch my bladder which causes a sharp urge to pee.

Sleep: Sleeping well!

Clothing: The same - 90% maternity clothes.

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: A very strong sense of smell.  I've noticed this throughout my pregnancy, but even more so as of late.  Also, the heartburn (throat burn) is starting.  I remember feeling it for the first time with Brantley after eating an Oreo (weird because I'm not an Oreo girl) and noticed this time after eating a cookie.

Differences from First Pregnancy: I still enjoy being pregnant, but definitely not as much as I did the first time around.  I tire easily and get really worn out from taking care of Brantley.  I'm just feeling so much larger this time for some reason...

What I Miss: All the holiday beer.

Best Moment: It's Christmas break...all the moments are good.

Looking Forward To: Ringing in the new year because that's the year Baby will arrive!

Bumpdate: Week 22

My, oh my, I'm getting bigger and my pants are getting tighter!  Definitely feeling pregnant 100% of the time now!  I know the baby isn't that big (compared to where he'll be), so it must be his position because there are times when I feel like everything in my stomach is so crammed in there.  I had a hair appointment yesterday and after about an hour and a half, I literally felt like I couldn't sit there any longer.  Once she took me to the sink to rinse my hair (and I could lay back and stretch my stomach), I felt fine.  I don't really think the baby is kicking my ribs yet, but pushing up against them enough to make them ache.  I just don't remember feeling this way the first time...or at least not this early.

More than likely, we have a name for Baby Boy #2.  I have come to accept that our kids will not all share the first letter :(, but luckily I really like our non-B name, as well!  We've shared with some friends and family, but I wouldn't say anything is official and I'm not sure I'm ready/willing to announce to the world just yet.  I'm not one that can refer to Baby by his name until he is born anyway, and I always think, What if...we find something else we like better?  I don't want to set anything in stone quite yet and want to keep our options open!

How Far Along: 22 weeks

Size of Baby: ~11 inches, 1 pound (big milestone = measuring in pounds now, not ounces!)

Gender: BOY

Weight Gain: About 14 pounds...after a cookie exchange on Saturday and cookie decorating party on Sunday and three deliveries of cookies from students, I think I've eating about two dozen cookies in the last few days.  Go ahead and judge me...

Food Cravings: I tried a pomegranate last weekend and wanted them again this weekend.  But I still wouldn't call it a craving...

Food Aversions: None.  Though cooking hasn't been appealing to me lately.  Which usually leaves us scrambling for dinner at the last minute.

Movement: No changes here.

Sleep: Sleeping really well lately!

Clothing: The same - 90% maternity clothes.  Sqeezing my belly and butt into a few pre-prego jeans still.

Other Pregnancy Symptoms: My hands are starting to feel carpel tunnel-ish in the mornings once again.  It's hard to sqeeze the toothpaste from the tube and hold my toothbrush.  They also feel swollen, but my wedding ring still fits.

What I Miss: Nothing in particular this week.

Best Moment: Continuing to clear out the guest bedroom.  It's almost empty, closet and all!

Looking Forward To: Being at home for two full weeks with my babe (and hopefully hubby), the holidays, traveling to Iowa, and beginning Brantley's new room!

You can judge the fact that I ate two dozen cookies, but don't judge my sweater.  It was ugly sweater day at school today.

Too cute not to share - Brantley decided to photo bomb my weekly photo shoot!
