Brantley Carter: 10 Months Old!

Today marks your big 10-month birthday.  Also known as the day you took your first tumble over the arm of the chair.  It happened during your photo shoot.  These darn photo shoots get harder and harder each month, I tell ya!  Especially with a baby as active as you!  But I can't give up now, with just two months remaining until your first birthday.  (You were fine, by the way, after your somersault.  A little scared, but Mommy came to the rescue and caught you mid-air.)

This is why you fell...you crazy, fearless kid!
People say "you're all boy".  I think it has something to do with the fact that you never stop going.  I repeat, you.never.stop.going.  You're like the energizer bunny.  Or a honey badger, as Daddy says.  You don't care what's in your way...when you want something, you get it.  And you couldn't care less about what you have to crawl over, under, through all of the above to get it.

You are ornery, too.  Like the other day when Daddy told you "no" when you were pushing on the window screen.  You moved away, but then slyly snuck your hand back on it, and pulled it away super fast when you heard Daddy's voice again.  Hilarious.  I have a feeling the orneriness will only get worse.

You seem to be learning what the word 'no' means and just today, for the first time, seemed to get your feelings hurt when I spoke sternly to you.  You still don't have much stranger danger and seem to enjoy being the center of attention.  I swear, you even show off at times.  Gramma and Papa Fritz were here over the weekend.  I gave you an avocado/pear popsicle.  You put the wrong end in your mouth, and when we laughed and laughed at you, you continued to do the same thing.  You thought it was the funniest thing.  Such a funny personality you have!

This is what happened when I told you no

Speaking of, it doesn't take much for you to laugh nowadays.  Maybe not the belly laughs like we heard on this video, but you've got your own silly, squeal-like laugh.  Ditto with smiling.  You smile constantly, and your daddy and I think it's the most handsome smile we've ever seen.

Though I wouldn't ever trade these days for the newborn days (this stage beats all, so far!), I do miss my snuggly, little baby.  It's rare that you want to snuggle or lay your head on my shoulder.  I'm seriously not kidding when I say you go, go go.  It's tiring chasing you around all day, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Two months until your first birthday.  They will be the quickest two months, too.  I'm just sure of it!  I have 13 days remaining of my school year and then it's Mommy/Brantley time for 2 1/2 months!  Did I mention that I can't wait?!?!

10-Month Update

Size - At your 9-month appointment a few days after your 9-month birthday, you were 20 pounds and 6 ounces officially. So maybe 21 pounds?  I was too lazy to weigh you.  Sorry.

Words - No new words to report.  Lots of "ba-bas" lately and even a "da-da" or two, though I don't think either word is in reference to anything specific (sorry Daddy).  You still know what the words 'fan' and 'doggy' mean, as well as the word 'light'.

Activity - You recently started climbing stairs.  Like entire flights.  It's so crazy!  You have also stood unassisted for a few brief seconds multiple times.  That just started within the last few days.  You are a speed crawler and really show no signs of walking - yet.  However, you will push your walker toys and "walk" around the ottoman while holding onto it.  I think you've also recently realized that you're the baby you see in mirrors (or on my phone screen when taking a picture).  It's so cute to see you look at me, then my reflection, then me, then my reflection.  It's like the whole world is beginning to make sense. :)

Food - Three bottles per day, pretty consistently, but the amounts vary.  You almost always drink 8 ounces each morning, immediately after waking up.  Then another bottle in the afternoon and another before bed - those are typically between 4 and 6 ounces each.  It's rare that you drink a full 8 ounces except in your morning bottle.  Fine by me because formula is expensive!  You are eating three full meals per day - mostly pureed fruits and veggies, rice, oatmeal, pureed meat, or a combination thereof - and multiple snacks as well (puffs, Mum Mums, Cheerios, goldfish, graham crackers, Gerber cookies, among others).  Miss Stephanie feeds you a multitude of table food (pretty much whatever the other kids eat), but I'm not sure of the specifics!

Sleep - Around 10 hours per night plus two naps ranging from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours (in your crib) per day.  We don't really follow a "schedule", but put you down for a nap whenever you act tired.  You are a champ at falling asleep, even for your naps nowadays.  Maybe a little fussing, but you soothe yourself to sleep (most often without a paci) within a few minutes.

Bedtime/Waketime - Bedtime is anywhere between 7:30 and 9, after your last bottle.  Wake time is still between 6:00 and 7:00, typically.

Hair - Very blond.  And growing.  You have lots in the back...more than it appears because it's so blond.  Still little on top, but more than it looks!

Eyes - Dark blue

Teeth - Two on the bottom and now two on top!  Miss Stephanie thinks you have a third coming in on top, but I have yet to see it.  This is the first month your teeth have seemed to bother you.  Tylenol has been our friend this month. :)

Tried to get your top teeth

Likes - Eating, Kinnick, bathtime, hanging upside down, taking all of your diapers out of the diaper caddy, ceiling fans, Kinnick's dog bowl, the dog bowl placemat, books (Yummy Yucky), your motorcycle, air vents, most things in the kitchen, Mommy, Daddy, bottles, stroller rides, and exploring the world around you.

Dislikes - Waking up from naps, being hungry, being tired, medicine (Tylenol, antibiotics, you hate it all).

Wardrobe - Pretty true to size - mostly 9-18 months.  Size 2 shoes.

Diapers - Size 3

Mommy's Fave - I'm not gonna lie.  I love it when you are upset or fussy and you crawl to me for comfort.

And one final photo to commemorate you double digit monthly birthday.  It's rough being a 10-month old...

As a Friend Put it - Mayuary

I can honestly say I never thought I'd see snow in May.  The closest I've come is snow in July...but that was on top of Pike's Peak in Colorado.  Ugh.  I'm not even sure whether to laugh or cry.  At this rate, summer will finally be here come time to go back to school in August... :(

It was snowing as I drove home yesterday.  Seriously, it looked (and felt) like a mid-December day!

Proof of the white stuff...on May 2

I'm usually not a fan of all the things people "share" on Facebook.  But I've found these to be pretty funny over the last 24 hours.

Here's hoping Mother Nature's mood swings improve SOON!  In the meantime, stay warm!

My Favorite Things: Baby Edition #3

It's that time again! Time for more of my favorite baby products!  Most of these are above and beyond what one really needs, but nice conveniences to have!

The First Years Jet Lightweight Stroller (similar)- When I was registering, a friend recommended we add an umbrella stroller - you know, the ones you used to play with as a kid.  (At least that's what my sister and I did.)  Sure, we have our BOB, but BOB can be a pain-in-the-butt.  It's heavy and takes up a lot of space.  These lightweight strollers are so much more convenient when BOB is not necessary.  For instance, we took our umbrella stroller to Wichita over Easter weekend, as we already had a car full.  I also took it to Bass Pro when we went to visit the Easter bunny.  It folds quickly and easily and it's so much easier to push through small spaces.  This one is from Target and I noticed just the other day that it was on sale!  It has a detachable sun shade and compartments up top to store things (like a drink), as well as a nice place to throw things below the seat.

Brica Super Scoop Bath Toy Organizer - Necessary only if you don't want bath toys scattering the floor of your bath tub. :)  We had another brand, but it was teeny-tiny and would not stay suctioned to our wall.  This one is great.  Larger, stays suctioned, and easily lifts off.  And I think it's pretty cute!

Green Sprouts Freezer Cubes - I've blogged before about making my own baby food.  These are what I use to store the pureed food.  I know many moms are happy using ice cube trays to freeze food and then store the frozen cubes in ziploc baggies.  I'm sure that works great, too, but I love these things.  They have lids and can be moved easily from the freezer to refrigerator.  They also come with trays that make for easy stacking.  Sure, they're probably more expensive than ice cube trays, but to me, well worth it!

Infantino Shopping Cart/Highchair Cover - I'm not a major germ-a-phobe, but these shopping cart/high chair covers are pretty nice to have.  Mine is pretty basic...I found it at Marshall's for $20!  I've recently seen some with a front pocket that would be convenient for storing items (pacifier, snacks, small toys) and even some with teething rings/toys attached!  Shark Tank also featured one recently (the Cool Wazoo) that's like 6-uses-in-one!

Little Tikes 2-in-1 Snug 'n Secure Swing - We just got this a few weeks ago, but have used it every weekend since!  You have to buy the hooks separately, but can attach them anywhere!  We have hooks attached to our garage frame (in the front of our house) and to our deck (in the back).  We've even seen neighbors with hooks attached to tree branches!

Tommy Tippee Easy Roll Bib - Another recent purchase!  These have a pocket to catch fallen food and they're rubbery material, which makes for easy clean-up!

Tiny Diner Placemat - We keep this thing in our diaper bag and use it anytime we're out to eat.  It suctions to the table and provides a clean, eating surface.  It also has a scoop that catches dropped food and rolls up nicely and easily for compact storage.  This was a recommendation from a friend of a friend and I agree - it's great!

Puj Ultra Soft Spout Cover - Now that Brantley is obsessed with standing in the bath tub, I'm a nervous wreck about him accidentally falling and hitting his head on the spout.  I ordered this cute spout cover from Amazon (mainly because it was the cutest one I saw and matches our bathroom color scheme).  It's foam and slips on easily over the spout.  It a fairly new addition to our bathtub, so I can't say much, but so far, it's doing what it should!

KidKusion Kushion - Once Brantley started climbing and standing on things, we knew we needed to baby proof the fireplace hearth.  Those corners are deadly and I would cringe at the thought of Brantley falling on them!  We saw this thing at Buy Buy Baby and ordered it soon after from Amazon.  It's the perfect length for our fireplace and provides a cushion around the entire outside perimeter (math teacher lingo!).  It attaches with Velcro (included) and stays in place nicely - even when Brantley plays with it!  Definitely one of our best baby proofing purchases!

Up & Up Baby Food Pouches - Even though I'm making my own fruit and veggie purees, I always keep our pantry stocked with these!  They are so convenient when we're out and about.  The Target brand (Up & Up) are 89 cents a piece, as opposed to $1+ for the organic pouches.  And let's be honest, I don't buy organic produce for myself, so I see no need to spend the extra money for Brantley either.

Aquatopia Deluxe Safety Easy Bath Kneeler - Brantley loves bathtime.  And we've started giving him baths more regularly.  But my knees would always hurt so bad from kneeling on our hard, tile floor.  And then I discovered this!!  It's awesome.  Memory foam and the perfect solution to sore knees.  It even has pockets to store things in and folds nicely out of the way.

Leapfrog My Pal Scout - This was one of few things we bought Brantley for his first Christmas.  It comes with a USB cord and can be programmed to say your child's name, sing his/her favorite songs, and even talk about a favorite food (in our case, bacon!), among other things!  Brantley almost always smiles when he hears Scout say his name.  It's adorable.

Still Here, Alive, & Well!

Hi followers!  I'm still here!  And doing well!  We've been busy, but not really with anything specific or blog-worthy.  Honestly, I'm just counting down the days until school is out!

16 to go.

This weekend will be the third straight weekend with family in town.  The first it was Brantley's Aunt Lori and oldest cousin Delanie for Delanie's volleyball tournament  - and they brought along Grandma Sides.  Last weekend Lori was back with the rest of her fam - Uncle Roger and cousins Carson, Brekkyn, and Adley - this time for a soccer tournament.  I'm pretty sure the girls loved spending time with their cousin Brantley, especially Adley!  Likewise, it was great to host our visitors from Wichita!

This weekend, my parents will be here!  I'm excited for their visit, but it'd be a lot better if the weather would stay nice!  Instead, tomorrow's high is 39 with a chance of snow.  And the weekend isn't much better.  So much for going to the zoo!

I have a few pictures to share, but seriously, we just haven't been up to that much lately!

Prom 2013

Once again, I chaperoned Mill Valley's this year.  And once again, it was held at Club 1000 - the cute little place where we got married!  And once again, the chaperones met for dinner pre-Prom at Cafe Trio on the Plaza, and once again, I ordered the Mac Daddy.  Yum!

It's always so much fun to see our students in their finest.  And likewise, it's fun to have an excuse to dress up myself!

As I was getting ready, I had an idea.  Brantley had a tux hanging in his closet.  It was a gift from his great grandma and has been there {untouched} since he was 6 weeks old.  I told the hubs I needed him to do something for me, assuming he'd think it was a ridiculous idea to put the tux on for, say, five minutes for a picture.  But to my surprise, he agreed!  So, here are some pics of Brantley's first Prom attire.  Cutest date I saw all night, if I do say so myself!  Thanks for the adorable outfit, Grandma!

And a few more pics of some teacher friends and I!

And just for fun--a side by side comparison of Prom last year versus this year!  Same date, but look how much he's grown!!!

Brantley's First Day at the K

We love Royals games.  They are one of our favorite summertime activities!

The hubs has always been a fan.  Growing up in Kansas, I suppose that's a given.  I frequented Kauffman Stadium quite a bit - more than any other baseball stadium - in my pre-KC years, too!  My aunt and uncle live east of the city and my family used to visit every few summers.  The summertime trips usually consisted of a Royals game.  I moved here, and despite my St. Louis Cardinal-loving family, it just felt natural to cheer on the boys in blue!

We have been looking forward to Brantley's first Royals game since the day he was born!  We watched his first game on t.v. in the hospital.  This was in our boarding room.  Brings back both good and bad memories...

Anyway, we debated taking Brantley to his first game last fall, but it never happened.  Since this was opening weekend, and the weather was nice (70-something first pitch temp), we jumped on the opportunity to introduce Brantley to Kauffman Stadium at just nine months old!

I'm convinced that having a baby makes everything more fun.  I can't even tell you how exciting it was to take our baby to his first game!  We tailgated, grilled some hot dogs, and took in all nine innings of the game.  Brantley was a champ!  I was a proud mama and have never been more excited about having a little BOY!

Tailgating

Brantley even got a cerfiticate for attending his first Royals game!  (Thanks to our neighbors for filling us in on this little secret!)  Local friends--take your little one to Guest Servives behind home plate during his or her first trip to Kauffman for a certificate of his/her own!

Brantley's first Royals experience was definitely one to remember!  When he got a little antsy, I took him to the "Outfield Experience" a kid-friendly area behind the outfield that includes a playground and carousel, amongst other activities for the littlest of Royals fans.

Crawling around with Mom near the playground
And guess what?  The Royals WON!  In a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th.  But poor Brantley missed it because he decided to take a nap in Daddy's arms.

How sweet is this?
And not only that, but they are currently in FIRST PLACE!  Perhaps the only time this year we'll be able to say that, but we'll hope for the best!

Here are a few more pics from Brantley's first day at the K!!
